I love gingerbread and I love pumpkin, so I wanted to love this recipe, but the pumpkin/pudding mixture was WAY too sweet. If I were going to make this recipe again, I would probably omit the brown sugar from the mixture and maybe that would help? Great idea, though.

This is such a big hit. Everytime I have made it for a family or work function I have had to give the recipe out to everyone who ate it.

Made a few adjusments after reading the reviews. I used 2 1/2 cups of WHOLE milk in the cook and serve pudding mix instead of 3 and let cool completely. Used spice cake instead of gingerbread. Used canned pumpkin and followed the recipe on the can omitting milk/eggs...do not add the extra brown sugar thats in the recipe. I drizzled Smuckers butterscotch caramel topping over each layer of cake. I made a graham cracker crust and then crumbled it and put it on top and then drizzled more caramel topping....WOW!

Best of all, our 16 year old son said "mom, amazing!". I almost used pure pumpkin by mistake but caught myself just in time. Served at an event with 40 or so people with other dessert choices. I received many compliments and only took a small amount home. Would definitely make again.

This trifle is great! It has become a Thanksgiving traditional dessert. I use homemade gingerbread. One of my son's friend loves this. He looks forward to Thanksgiving, so he can eat some or most of it.
