This cake lives up to its name. It doesn't taste like it came from a boxed mix at all. My 95 year old Grandfather noted that he has never had a dessert like it before. The taste is familiar enough where people will like it but also unique enough where most people have never had anything identical to it before.

I made Paula's gooey pumpkin butter cake for Thanksgiving instead of a pumpkin pie and it was delicious. This is now served as a Thanksgiving tradition every year!

These bars never miss a Thanksgiving or Christmas in my family. My mom started baking these a few years ago and they have been a staple food since. They are pretty simple to make but you have to be sure not to overcook them. Better than pumpkin pie!

I made this last Thanksgiving and everyone loved it so much they requested it for Christmas, too! I think this will become one of our Holiday staples!

Ms. Paula, Ms. Paula! This is an excellent recipe... I made the pumpkin version in November as a test dessert, it was a hit! Went on to make several for our Thanksgiving Homeless feeding we do through a collaboration between local churches.. The people we fed were happy, the staff loved them and each Pastor asked me to make them one for their holiday table as well. Come Christmas time people were offering to pay me to make them. I did make a few minor changes/tweeks but they came out amazing!

I have tried this recipe twice. First I made the pumpkin version and it turned out way too soupy and the filling just didn't seem to set up properly. The second time (tonight I tried the chocolate cake with peanutbutter filling. The bottom seemed too done while the filling just was too gooey for me and my family. I used a large pan and went exactly by the directions. I was really disappointed because I've seen Paula make this and it seemed like a crowd pleaser. Next time, I'll stick to the gooey butter version and hope for a better outcome.
