I found the recipe easy to follow and the dish looked very festive for Christmas. However, I found it lacking in flavor as did my guests. I ended up throwing the whole thing out. I followed the recipe step by step as I always do when making a new dish. My first Christmas in my new house with the whole family and no dessert. We were all very disappointed!!

Fantastic cake recipe all on its own, but the bread pudding was AMAZING. Comments are right tho, baking the cake and baking the cubes does take way more time than indicated in the recipe, and it needs more custard, but it was still delicious!

I've made this a few times now - absolutely LOVE it. Made it for my best friend's baby shower as cupcakes :D. It's time consuming, but so worth it. And for all those who thought it came out mushy - that's just the nature of bread pudding. I sort of agree, though, that it should maybe be cooked longer, only because I love the taste of the crispy cubes that don't get covered in the pudding.

This recipe was incredible! It took me a while to make the first time, but now I make it every Christmas and my family and friends look forward to it. With homemade vanilla ice cream and cool whip it is to die for! Cooking the cake seperate and then the pudding is well worth it!

This turned out excellent; however, you have to cook both the cake and then the cake with pudding longer than it states on the recipe. I baked the cubed cake in the oven as the recipe suggested rather than air dry. If you have a deep casserole dish I found that to be helpful to pile up the cubes. Then the pudding barely covered it all, but I do think less is more just as long as the cubes are at least all moistened with the mixture. Plan to cook the cake with pudding at least 30 minutes longer than recommended. Just keep watching it! If it is soupy, cook it longer!
I will definitely be making this again and I think the second time will be even better!

The cake itself was OK and it sure does look pretty. I'm guessing cake just isn't meant to be made into a bread pudding. The texture just isn't there. This was nothing but a big bowl of mush of which I wound up throwing down the garbage disposal. Shameful to see food go to waste but no one would eat it... I also agree that it took much longer for the cake to cook through than what's advised on the recipe. I have a newer oven of which I have no problems with baking other dishes. The oven works fine - the recipe doesn't.

I just put this bugger in the over, and then sat down to read the reviews because I had such trouble. It is amazing how diverse the reviews are for this recipe - I wish I had read these before I started making this disaster.

I experienced the same problems as noted by other reviewers. The cake took way longer (an hour to cook through; but it was very tasty. I dried out the cubes as directed, but now realize I should have dried them much longer. The cake was probably still to moist. The pudding was completely not enough for the amount of cake produced. I had to add to it, but STILL didn't make enough. I do not see how the amount of pudding made per the recipe could cover this amount of cake. Although it is still baking, I expect it is going to be very soupy.
If it turns out, I will be very surprised. If it does turn out and tastes good, I will add to my review. I might try making it again, because the cake was very good; but I will tweak this recipe big time first!

For some reason my red velvet cake would not bake completely! I had it in the oven for a good 50 minutes and the center was still not set! But I just used the cake that was done, so there was a little extra custard, but still tasted great! Probably try it again and see if I can get it right.
