Ingredients

  • 1 (1-pound) package ground sausage
  • 3 cups baking mix (recommended: Bisquick)
  • 4 cups grated sharp Cheddar
  • 1/8 tablespoon pepper

Dip:

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon mustard

Directions

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Spray a baking sheet with vegetable oil cooking spray.  Combine all ingredients in a large glass bowl. Mix well with your fingers. The mixture will be very crumbly. Form into 1 inch balls, squeezing the mixture so it holds together, then rolling it between the palms of your hands to form balls.  Place the balls on the baking sheet. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. To prevent sticking, move the balls with a spatula halfway through cooking. To make the dip, combine the mayonnaise and mustard. Serve with sausage balls.

    Not that great

Rated: 3 stars out of 5
No one in my family was crazy about these. Tasted much better with the dipping sauce. The last few balls had little to no... sausage in them and baked up like a mini biscuit. Just OK and I would not make again.Read more

    A Longtime Favorite

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
We have always loved these especially on a Sunday morning or for a party treat. The original Bisquick recipe calls for 1/2... cup of milk also. When made that way they are not too dry however, don't pour it in all at once but gradually so as not to over moisten.Read more

    Turkey sausage version

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I used turkey sausage in place of the regular sausage and it was still outstanding! I'm not very into cooking and these were... easy, low fat (with turkey sausage) and delicious. Read more

    Susage Balls

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
II thought 3 cups of Bisquick was to much too, However, it really isn't, you must first mix the cheese and susage together... first and let come to room temp. Then mixture will adhear a lot better...hum.... Although I do use about 1 cup more cheese and I also use 1/2 hot sausage and 1/2 regular it really makes a great sausage balll! I have made thie recipe several times, the ladies at my husbands office have requested them for cover dish get-togethers. I love them they are great! Thanks Paula! Read more

    Very good, couldn't be easier.

First thanks for the tips about the baking mix everyone. I heeded your advice and they turned out great. Instead of cutting... the mix though, I bumped the other ingredients. I used 1 pound of mild sausage and 1/2 pound of hot sausage. This gave them a little kick without sending those overly sensitive to spicy food running for something to drink. I increased the grated cheese to 6 cups to help balance out the increased meat. The finished texture of these was an improvement over other sausage balls I've had. My Granddad always liked some sorghum syrup or honey on his sausage. I followed his lead here and added a couple of tablespoons of honey to the dip. This added a nice mild sweetness that complimented the hot sausage very well.Read more
