My family loves this soup! We always make it the crockpot and it turns out thick and yummy! Highly recommend!

The house seasoning recipe is for multiple uses. You do not use it all in the split pea soup. You just use a little bit of it, enough for your tastes.

I'm rating as good since I had to leave a rating in order to post. I haven't tried as yet but, I love to make split pea soup and will try this one ASAP. In the meantime just wanted to say to those of you who used the whole amount of the house seasoning if you don't cook it is easy to make this mistake. Recipe should have been worded i.e., "use tsp, house seasoning" I figured lisartist used all when said it was way too salty. You have to use your better judgement at times and think that a a cup of salt is way to much. You can always ADD but you CAN'T TAKE OUT!!

Everyone in my family said it was WAY too salty. Dad added instant mashed potatoes to thicken it up a bit.

Just tried this soup after watching it on Paula's show. I had a turkey and ham for Christmas, so I put the ham bone and ham meat in the soup instead of bacon. I also put the veggies in the processor to melt into the soup. It was so delish.

the flavour was good but with the Butter, Bacon & Sausage there was entirely too much "grease" ! I also used the recommended 2 qts of Chix Broth but found that made for too much "liquid" - I drove to the market and got another lb of Peas (which I cooked in some Beef Broth and added to the soup. I prefer to make my pea/bean soups by blending 1/2 the peas/beans (in a blender and leaving the other half whole, which gives the soup some texture and at the same time some thickness - the 2nd lb of Peas accomplished that.

will keep this recipe but will cut down on the greases and liquids

Since my husband doesn't eat red meat, substituted turkey bacon for slab bacon, and cubed turkey ham (chunk turkey ham; most definitely not lunch meat for sausage. Yummy! Creamy, tasty, perfecto!! Will share and prepare again and again.

I love this soup, in fact I have tried many of Paulas recipes and never once had one we didn't love. Even went to Savannah and ate at The Lady and Sons which was perfect too. Love you Paula and we are returning to dine there again and Uncle Bubbas this spring.
