I used the butter, but omitted the sausage. It was DELICIOUS!! I put a little too much broth in, and so ended up adding powdered potatoes which I think gave it a nice texture, and made it a little easier for toddler to serve himself. Add a little hot sauce! Ditto others' suggestions about waiting to salt.

My family all enjoyed this hearty soup. I made it as written, using about 2 1/2 quarts broth. I would recommend tasting the soup after it has cooked for a while before adding any of the seasoning, as the amount to be used isn't indicated and so you have to rely on your taste and it would be easy to oversalt.

I didn't use the butter...instead used a tbsp of olive oil. I held off on the salt because both the bacon and sausage were salty enough. I did use spicy sausage as suggested by another reviewer and added 4 diced potatoes for the last 1/2 hour of cooking. Awesome!!! Full of great flavor and got raves from the husband and child. Will make this one often.

This is a wonderful soup! I added the carrots, onions and celery for the last hour of simmering, and skipped the butter. My teenage son even had seconds!

This sounds yummy and I hate peas and will be making it in the near future. I just dont understand people, do they ever watch her cook ? She doesnt put a cup of salt in there. And even if they did not see her show come on a cup of salt ? When would you ever want that much salt in something. Come on people have more common sense than that.

I'm glad the guy from cincinnati called attention to the "poor soul" who added a cup of salt to the soup. The really funny part was that she said that " one C of salt sounds like alot (sic" You think?!! Maybe common sense should play a large part in following any recipe?

I never thought my family would eat this soup, but I made it for something different. No one complained, which is a good thing...I didn't use any butter...Didn't think I needed it.

My husband & I love soups and could not get over how fantastic this was-my brother-in-law keeps asking me when I'm going to make it again as we gave him some to sample. He said it was the best he has ever had.
I added more celery & carrots & only did 2 qts of stock. I also cooked it for a good part of the day.
Great going Paula! A little fat does not hurt anyone-it's not like your going to be eating this for a month. It sure was GOOD!!!!!!!!

Rich and savory - I loved it! My mom's friend cooked it up for us during this cold week and it was the perfect thing to warm me up after school!
