Thank you again Paula! My husband who doesn't even like Split Pea Soup, adored this. I used the Jimmy Dean BOLD sausage (I think it's new, and it added so much flavor, even more flavor than if I had put a ham hock in. This recipe made a lot for 2 people, so I'm going to try and freeze some to enjoy on another chilly night. We like things a bit spicy, but if you do not, don't use the BOLD version of the sausage.

This soup was terrific! Perfect flavor and I loved the fact that my kids ate it, too! A little prep time and leave it alone except to stir occasionally, very manageable! I considered blending the soup to make it smooth, but am glad that I left it alone. This is the best recipe and can't wait to have the little that was left for lunch at work tomorrow!

I usually make my split pea soup with a ham bone - this recipe was just as good, if not better! The sausage/bacon was a good substitute. This recipe is definitely a keeper.

For the people who gave this recipie poor ratings for the amount of salt, please take note when paula tells you how to make the "house seasoning" it does not mean you are going to use it all in the recipie. You keep it on hand like other spices and use it to your taste. Any cook worth their salt (pun intended should know Paula is not intending for you to use a whole cup of salt in this recipie. Come on people a little common sense goes a long way.

This is a very simple, rich soup. I did not even pre soak the split peas. I just let the soup simmer a little longer, and it was great!!! I had a ham bone that I used instead of the sausage, and I hed never used bacon in my split pea soup before. What a no brainer--it was delicious!!! I really enjoyed this recipe.

The soup was very tasty, however, found it very salty.. by using the ham, sausage, and seasoning that is enough salt. Also 1C of salt sounds like alot in the seasoning. I didn't use that much and it was still very salty.

This was a very tasty soup. I made some changes. I cut this recipe in half, omitted the butter, small diced the carrots, used the greater amount of chicken stock since I don't like very thick split pea soup, added a bay leaf and the last hour of cooking I added a potato diced small.

I just don't get bacon, butter and sausage all in one recipe. Way too much fat. I usually will cut the fat in Paula's recipes, but come on Paula start cutting the fat.
