This is one of the best shepherd's pie recipes I've tried. Great use of leftovers too. My husband was a happy man! We love it. Never had a bad result from any of Paula Deen's recipes and this is one of our favorites. Thanks Paula!

I made Paula's Pot Roast recipe the other day and used the leftovers for this Shepard's Pie. My son and husband couldn't stop raving about how good it was. It was fantastic!

The recipe looks great - but minus a bit of the butter for ME! but OMG the nasty vein of many comments is deplorable - especially on a RECIPE SITE- get OVER it. If you want to use beef, lamb or any other left over protein - use it. Call it what you wish. Either use or don't the Bisquik - make the recipe your own. But quit sniping at one another - this is for recipe reviews - not a platform for degrading one another! It's a recipe for heaven's sake - either try it if it sounds good - and if not, say "NEXT!

This was great. I too didn't have any gravy on hand but if you have bouillon and water or a small can of broth you can fix the gravy problem. I browned the meat in a small amt of olive oil then dusted a few tbs of flour over it, added the broth and it made gravy. I added the veggies I had on hand into that as well. Quick to make and was very good. And I have to agree with fanofvlad, shepherds pie does NOT have to be lamb.

When I cook pot roast there is always gravy so I wasn't surprised to see it in the ingredients. Thanks for the reviewer who gave me the heads up so I knew to save some for this. Another said Shepherd's Pie should be lamb, well not in my family. It has always been beef. Guess my family herded cattle, not sheep.

I thought this was an easy dinner recipe. It didn't take me long to prepare everything, and I used fresh mashed potatoes because I didn't have any leftovers. It is a little heavy so I wouldn't make it every night of the week, but it's a good way to use up the extra pot roast from Sunday dinner. Plus, my nephews ate it without complaining. (amazing

I was also noticing in the recipe that it said to add gravey but there was no gravey in the ingredients. As I was making the mashed potatoes and heating up my left over roast beef I was thinking that this seems like it might be a little dry. SOOOOOO, after scouring my pantry and having nothing to make gravey with, I found a can of cream of mushroom soup. I added the soup to the beef (along with a can of water while it heated up with the onions. Also for the topping, I took pilsbury refridgerator biscuts and put them on top, as it cooked in the oven, the biscuits puff up and make a wonderful top. IT CAME OUT FANTASTIC!!!!!!
