I made this last night and we loved it! My husband's friend was over for dinner and both men really enjoyed the meatiness of the dish. I added garlic to the meat and potatoes for extra flavor. Easy, delicious, and hearty...great job Paula!

I've made this recipe several times, and just use whatever potatoes and mixed veggies I happen to have. It is always a hit with my family and company.

I prepared the dish with no modifications and thought this was a great recipe.

I love shepherd's pie, and as I was craving one, I thought Paula Deen was the right way to go. Happy to say, I wasn't disappointed. This was a very good dish. Only a few modifications: the potato layer was a little bland for me, so I added garlic powder, onion powder and some of Emeril's original essence to it until it suited my tastes. Also, next time, if I don't have as much time to make the potatoes from scratch, I may just use instant ones, as that was the most time-consuming part of making this.

It is one of my family's favorite meals. I never had shepherd’s pie before I tried the recipe. I even taught my mother's neighbor how to make it because of this recipe. It is a staple in my household.

This recipe is SUPER tasty!! I made a beef gravy with beef boullion, water, butter and cornstarch in place of the tomato sauce. Also, added some fresh chopped garlic when browning the beef. It was so delicious! Will definitely make this recipe again. There are so many different possibilities using the same technique.

One of my family's favorite dishes! It's one of those use-whatever-you've-got-in-the-pantry type dishes (nice when you've got two little ones and didn't have time to grocery shop that day.
I've used ground turkey as well as ground beef/chuck/sirloin, any of them work well. I've used whatever kind of vegetable I've had on hand that day, corn, mixed vegetables, green beans, pretty much anything works. I've also used instant potatoes when I didn't have real ones available.
But there are two things I always change on purpose with this recipe. I HALF THE BISCUIT MIX AND TOMATO SAUCE.
BOTTOM LINE: You just can't mess this recipe up. It's always delicious!

This recipe is excellent, as I've come to expect from Paula Deen. As Paula recommends, I've played with the recipe a bit and here's my take on things.

I used ground turkey as that was what I had in the fridge. I added a small can of sliced mushrooms, as well as a splash of Pinot Grigio (white wine for an added level of flavor.

Also, in borrowing from Paula's Potato Casserole (excellent! recipe, I added a slight layer of sour cream on top of the mashed potato layer. I also added just a couple of shakes of house seasoning to top the sour cream layer, for an extra bit of flavor.

Lastly, I used "Heart Smart" Bisquick mix as that was what I had in the pantry. It worked beautifully, and the melted butter drizzled on top was perfect. It baked up just as it was supposed to - golden brown and moist, and ready in about 28 minutes (a few minutes short, but my oven may be fast.

I'm definitely keeping this in the file - it's a keeper. Thanks, Paula!

I dont usually write reviews but this dish was so good I had to! I used left-over Catalina pot roast (roast made in the slow cooker with catalina dressing and it was sooooo yummy. It was so quick since I used leftovers. I also used ready made potatoes I bought at the supermarket. All together this dinner took me 10 minutes to put together and it has been one of our favorite meals. Were not big fans of vegtables but the corn in this was just perfect. I wouldnt make it using the chopped meat (bleh! the pot roast made all the difference.
