As always with Paula's recipes, this is a keeper! Fun and easy to make! I followed the directions, except I had peas that I used for the veggies, and I used one pound of hamburger, and one pound of groud turkey. Absolutely wonderful comfort food!

How is this even a recipe? The measurements aren't accurate nor are the cook times and temperatures.

Made this and it turned out terrible. It's a meat and potato casserole, not Shepard's Pie. Definitely drain the meat after browning, otherwise you will have soup. Cook the vegetables separately if they are raw and then add to the meat mixture. Gravy, NOT tomato sauce. Layer meat then potatoes. Leave this biscuits for the side. Oh and btw,.. call it what it is, cottage pie. No wonder they say Americans are stupid, because people blindly trust what they're told, by those who appear to be experts in their fields. Now how to undo the damage caused?

I have many recipes for Shepherd's pie. I do not especially like ground beef in the pie. I wanted the one Paula made on TV last week(Feb 19, 2010 with left over roast. Could that one be published?

Since I usually love Deen's food I followed this recipe as written. The final result was awful. I don't know any other way to explain it. It was runny, the biscuit top did not set right even after adding more time in the oven. It also lacked flavor.

I love making Deen's recipes but this one was a flop. A lot of good ingredients went into the trash can.

My whole family loved it! I changed it up a bit by adding a couple garlic cloves to my onion while sauteing, and didn't use as much butter. Boiled some carrots and then added them to my onions, with a bag of frozen peas and a bag of frozen corn. I also used stewing beef rather than ground beef that I cooked in a pressure cooker. I'm sure it's just as good with ground beef though. Also I changed the tomato sauce for a can of brown gravy as my husband isn't crazy about "red sauce". This was so good! I LOVE the biscuit mix on top! For the others, you can layer this anyway you like. I just added my beef to my veggies, then poured over the gravy, then layered it all in my casserole dish. I had to use a 9 x 13 as this was a huge "casserole". We all loved it, j ust like we love Paula! And will definitely add this to our arsenal!!! Thanks again Paula!

I had left over shredded beef and wanted to do something with it! Then a light went off in this old red head and I remembered my mother's Shepherd's Pie. I thought that maybe Paula (who I love might have a good recipe! Well, I read all the remarks and can only say--"way to go Paula". Who cares whether it is English or Southern or just American--Paula hit it out of the park. Going to take it to Shuffle Board for all to enjoy. Keep the butter and the smile coming Paula--we love you!!!!

Haven't even tried this recipe, but it sounds like what my grandpa used to call "ice box stew". He just took the ground beef and whatever frozen veggies were in the icebox and put it all in a pot w/ stock.....and you had " Icebox Stew'!!! And it can always use more corn...Poppy says....

This is a great recpie! It makes no difference to me if this is the "true english" version or not... it is a wonderful adaption! I didn't have and tomato sauce on hand so I substituted 2 cups of spaghetti sauce instead and seasoned the potatos when I cooked them. Will deffinatly make this again and again!
