I love this recipe and personally don't care that it isn't the "English" version of it, in fact, I LOVE that it isn't the English version of it! SOUTHERN food at its finest! I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT! Not a leftover one in the house when I make this!

My husband nags me to death to make this all the time now! I used fresh veggies that I lightly sauteed first.

Unless I'm blind, the "Beef Layer" says to add in the vegatables to the ground beef (first step in directions. Then later on in the directions it says to "spread a layer of mixed vegetables on top of the the potatoes and THEN add a layer of meat".

So do the vegetables (corn or Veg-All go into the meat mixture or are they separate?

For the die hards out there, take your negative comments to someone who cares. I used instant mashed potatoes and a can of rotel tomatoes. Use a little less water for the mashed potatoes. For the tomato sauce, I used one can of rotel tomatoes with one can of tomato sauce. I used all 2% milk and smart balance margarine. We also used a can of "veg-all". This is absolutely delicious. You can spice up the ground beef in so many ways. It took about 45-50 minutes, but it is worth it. My husband and I loved it. This will become a mainstay for our dinners.

I made this recipie last night for my husband, its his favorite and I have never attempted it before. I read it and it got my attention by the way she added the biscuit mix on top, that was the best part. It was very easy to make and my husand loved it, he wants me to make it again soon. The only thing different I did was add garlic powder to the water while it was boiling for the potatoes. I usually do that when I make mashed potatoes or potato salad, it just gives it that extra. Also I only used corn for the middle layer. I will definitely pass this one on, it was DELICIOUS!!!

I made this recipe for the first time last night. I followed the directions, except modified the amount of butter. I layered the mash potatoes, meat mixture, veggies, then bisquick mix. Yes, the directions are a bit confusing in regards to how to layer the dish, but does it really matter? I'm sure it would be good either way. The directions do say to prepare the veggies before adding them, so I microwaved my frozen veggies before adding them. I didn't have any runny mashed potato issues. I found it took closer to 1 hr to cook, but I think that might vary from oven to oven. Just watch yours, and this shouldn't be a problem either. I saw the show that Paula makes this at least 1 yr ago, and have been wanting to try it since. She CLEARLY says on the show that this is her "version" of shepherd's pie. Who really cares if this is "true" shepherds pie or not. I think people are a little too sensitive to that issue. If you don't think the recipe looks good, then don't try it...it's as simple as that. Thanks for some yummy food to keep us warm on a cold winter night, Paula!!

I chose this recipe because I needed something quick and relatively inexpensive on the fly. I was really happy with the end result. I noticed a few users said theirs turned out under seasoned, so I added a little garlic and plenty of salt and pepper to my ground beef and garlic and cheese to my mashed potatoes. I also didn't use 12 tbsp of butter, I used maybe 4. 3 tbsp for the mashed potatoes and 1 tbsp melted over the top. I used the tomato sauce with the beef and I thought it was delicious. I did have to bake it for almost an hour, but the biscuit crust cooked all the way through nicely. I also added mushrooms with the corn, because my boyfriend loves them. I would definitely make this again!

This is for Peggy and Connie- cant you just say like it or not. Gimme a break-who cares if the veggies are mixed in the meat or seperate layer, and with Paula Deans professional notority, I think she can call her recipe anything she wants. Haven't actually tried this yet- But plan on it- sounds Yummy! Thanks Paula
