I love it, my sons love it and one of them swears he doesn't eat onion or bell pepper. I just mince it, but don't tell!! You go girl!!

This recipe is awesome. I make it all the time. I always use fresh lump crab (I get it at Sams in seafood market. I never use canned crab or shrimp in this recipe. The only thing I do different is season my shrimp lightly with garlic and little butter in a saute pan for a minute or two and then add to the dip. You can also add other cheeses to it (I use grated parmesan . I have never had a problem with consistency or fishy smell either.

I made this recipe last weekend.
Used canned crabmeat, one white, one claws. First time I bought canned crabmeat. Chicken of the Sea.
    Used fresh cooked shrimp.
Found the canned shrimp soup, Also based on reviews I added old bay seasoning
I barely used any oil to saute the onion and yellow bell pepper. and doubled the seafood ingredients.
The dish smelled like cat food and was a looser consistency (looser than I would have liked. it didn't taste so bad. But I will never make it again. Wonder if it was the canned crabmeat. Never again!
    Sorry Paula.

I saw Paula make this during the 2008 holidays and decided to whip up for a dinner party. It was EXCELLENT! I was pleasantly surprised. Everyone raved about it - this will now be in my arsenal of "go to appetizers" to take for any occasion. I did make one change - used red peppers instead of green.

Besides the fact that this recipe will make everyone leave the party because it makes your entire kitchen smell like fish...it was oily and not good at all. Additionally, I went to three different grocery stores looking for cream of shrimp soup and could not find it. I used cream of chicken instead, which I'm sure 'helped' cut down on the fishiness. This was a One Bite dip...make something else!

I also used shrimp bisque which was cheaper than shrimp soup. I used fresh shrimp and poached in old bay. I think the addition of old bay (as a reviewer suggested to the dip, in addition to the cheese and the soup made it salty. I also used more crab and shrimp. The dip was a little looser than I expected even though I used less soup and mayonnaise. I would make again with a few changes.
