The meat was very tender but had no flavor other than cooked beef. This really needs something else to jazz it up. I froze the majority of the dish because my husband disliked it and intend to turn it into a nice b-b-q for another meal. If you are looking for a good way to make short ribs tender this is a good way, just be sure you have you have a wand handy so you can turn it into something tasty.

I am flabbergast...I threw out over half this recipe tonight. I read every review. I followed the recipe with the exception of adding the carrots and wine. I baked the short ribs in a clay casserole, which is usually ideal for meat. I thought it was too salty, even though I didn't salt entirely. It was just hugely disappointing. Since I am in the minority, and everyone loved this recipe, I must have goofed somewhere along the way. I just wish I knew where.

This was a wonderful basis for a recipe. I seasoned it to taste as I normally would (obviously no one was meant to use a cup of salt!!! and baked it with the broth and juices it had been cooking in when in the dutch oven on stovetop.. I omitted the extra cup of broth, and instead added a cup of red wine half way through cooking (at which point I turned the ribs.. The result was spectacular.

In the recipe, it doesnt say how much water and/or beef broth you use???? So we have to go to our own judgment?

I agree with one of the reviews. This is a BASIC SHORT RIBS recipe.
you can pretty much add anything you want, that you think would make it good for you, and your family.. Like with mine - I added Onions,Carrots, & Potatoes to it in the oven.
Honestly though - If you don't use your Common sense in ANY recipe, it won't come out the way you want it to.
If you like less seasoning , USE less. Thicker juice, use less broth
or more Flour...
Just following a recipe, isn't going to make it good.

A tiny bit of additional flour thickens the sauce much better. Some red wine, or medium sherry while braising them enhances de flavor thousand fold.

Don't waste your time.. flavorless & the gravy is too watery. It was like brown water. Sorry Paula!!
