Recently started my own cake business and I had no idea how to make a really good strawberry cake. Well, Ms. Paula, this one is out of this world, and I've had nothing but raves about it. Thank you!

I made this cake for my granddaughter's birthday--she wanted a strawberry cake. First, cooking time is off as others have noted; the cakes requires a longer cooking time. Then, the frosting is too drippy. I put the frosting into the fridge as others suggested before frosting the cake, but the consistency still wasn't right. The cake is now in the refrigerator, and I notice that the frosting on the sides of the cake has slid downward somewhat leaving a bulge around the bottom of the cake. I might try this recipe once more, but I'll try the frosting with a whole stick of butter and hope that gives it more body.

Ummm ...the only issue I've had, & I've made the cake several times, is it takes about 45 minutes to bake instead of 25. I checked my oven & even baked it at a friends. Any one else have a similar problem?
STILL!!! It's worth the extra time because it is so easy and the overall product is ...well ....FABULOUS!

So, why am I posting beforehand? Because I've read the other reviews and I wanted to say that, yes, you use STRAWBERRY EXTRACT in the frosting, not vanilla. The video for this recipe seems to have disappeared from the Food Network, but you can still catch in on YouTube and watch Paula and Michael making it. There she is, strawberry extract in hand. The vanilla must be a typo. She also says that she knows that 7 cups of sugar is alot and not to have a heart attack! I may still try to use more cream cheese and less sugar so that it's thick enough not to be runny. After I make this thing for next week's party, I'll post again. I hope it's tasty, so I'm pre-posting 5 stars for luck!!

You know how at potlucks you look around and there's usually 1 dish that nobody has touched? Or that maybe has a few small nibbles until people realize how awful it is? That's usually my dish. When I made this a few weeks ago it was the very first time in my entire life I made a dish that was eaten!!! I found this recipe easy, but time consuming. I made it exactly as written except for using strawberry cream cheese instead of regular. Will definitely make again!

I made this cake for my husband's birthday last night and everyone was amazed!! Literally, I only had one word for this cake last night....ridiculous!!! I was so rich and so strawberry-y!! I told my sister it tasted exactly like a strawberry shake, which since you don't know, is one of my favorite things in the world!! This will definately be made again and again!!

This cake was so easy to make-my 20 year old son made it.Had to bake it an additional 10 minutes. When cooled it looked like it needed to be baked longer, but then realized after tasting it that the cake was just very moist and rich. Did not use all 7 cups of confectioner's sugar (used about 5 and it was fine. Will definitely refrigerator frosting after making it-thought it was a smidge drippy. All in all this cake tastes amazing and will definitely make it again to be served with a cup of espresso. Thank you Paula Dean!
