My family and I loved the chicken. I read the reviews before I prepared this recipe and took the suggestion of substituting the 1/2 cup of water with 1 cup of chicken broth to add more flavor and more sauce. It turned out terrific!!
The biscuit recipe was not the recipe used on the show. I had taped the episode, so I used the recipe as described on the show. The biscuit recipe was nothing special, kind of flat and boring. Try the Alton Brown's recipe for Southern Style Biscuits, they are biscuits to die for! I will definitely make the chicken again with Alton's biscuits.

I made the chicken as directed (I used drumsticks, but used store bought frozen biscuits and served with baby red mashed potatoes and peas. Very good recipe, easy as well, not too many ingredients. Thanks Paula and Rose!! This one I'll make again.

It was absolutely awful!
It seriously wasn't that great. Everyone who said it tasted wonderfully, and it smelled up their house nicely - what were you cooking? I absolutely didn't find that out at all!
I suggest - save yourself don't make this!
Its not great make something else! Find a different reciepe, You & your family will go hungry making this one and will order pizza later on.

Chicken was fantastic !! Made my whole house smell so good ! I did use chicken stock instead of water and used about a cup. Also added mushrooms to the gravy but would be good either way . I did not make the biscuits due to all the bad reviews about the recipe being written wrong

I've made this recipe as written a few times--EXCEPT for the biscuits--I already know how to make biscuits so I made them the way I usually do. It seems the low star rating is due mainly to the biscuit recipe, hopefully they will correct it! Anyway, love it the original way! I have a family of 7, two of whom are teenagers and one who is 6 but eats just as much as the teens so I modified it in a way that works for us. I do the chicken as directed but then put it in a huge roasting pan and after all batches are browned, I add the veggies to the pan and saute as directed. Nowadays, I add some carrots to it and it is wonderful. Then I throw that in the pan with the chicken and put a bunch of water (at least 3 cups and bake at 350F for 45 minutes or so (until its done. Works better for our big family, everyone loves it. I usually cover it with foil then uncover it the last 10 minutes.

I made the biscuits, I couldn't understand why there was salt in the recipe, not only that, the salt was too much. With self-rising flour, you need no salt or baking soda or baking powder. I threw the first batch out and then made it with no salt at all, and they were good, I used buttermilk instead of regular milk. thank you, Connie Gregg

This was so yummy!! My family loved it. We like white meat so I used chicken breast fried crispy and used chicken stock instead of water. I also omitted the salt and sugar from the biscuits and they were PERFECT and EASY!

Obviously the recipe should read 1&1/2 TEASPOONS of salt, not tablespoons, just a typo. This is otherwise a very easy and comforting dish.I liked the idea of adding chicken stock in place of water and you could finish w/a bit of milk or cream to make it more like country gravy.
