Because I am a vegetarian, I altered the recipe slightly. I made 2 snakes, one with swiss cheese and tomato, and the other with mustard, american cheese, and vegetarian bologna. They both came out perfectly and were a hit at my party!

This was WONDERFUL! Once I located my rarely-used rolling pin, it was easy to put together...I used the salami and ham that Paula used on hers. Painting my 2 snakes was fun (I'm not artistic! and they looked fantastic when I took them out of the oven! They were the 1st appetizers to disappear on our buffet! YUM!

This turned out great and was the only thing completely finished on the table
at the party. I surrounded mine with strips of thin sliced green pepper, and made mine a "snake in the grass" BIG HIT!

I brushed them with blue and green food coloring and they looked great! My guests raved about how tasty too!

I made this last year, following her instructions carefully--but my snake "exploded" in the oven, and all that expensive meat and cheese oozed out all over the place. It was a mess that I couldn't serve our party guests. I was so disappointed.

This is now a Halloween favorite at our house. Everyone in my family loves it and it's quick and easy to make. Use whatever meats and cheeses your family likes, it's hard to go wrong. We use ham, pepperoni, and muenster cheese. We heat the pepperoni in the microwave on defrost and blot with a paper towel to de-grease. It's good with canadian bacon and pineapple; and Italian sausage, mozzarella, and pizza sauce. Great with potato soup before your trick-or-treaters hit the streets!
