These muffins (more like biscuts are absoultley D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S. I made them for my office Pot Luck May Breakfast and EVERYONE LOOOOVED them. I too added half of the muffins with strawberry perserves. I also find if you make 24 mini muffins that they are more tasty. I had 5 people ask me for the receipe so I am a bit shocked when people write that they were awful......It blows my mind. They must not have any taste buds or they simply can't cook a simple receipe.... I am now going to make this for my daugther's daycare - Thanksgiving lunch. They will be perfect for the little ones as they are just their size. This time I wont put any perserves. I am thinking of making them with a little bit of cheese on top....but for my daugther's daycare, I think I will keep it simple. This is a must have receipe and you cant go wrong, unless you burn them. If so, make another batch. You wont dissapoint.

I think they are good. Made exactly 24 smaller ones, put fruit jelly on them and couldn't quit. So they are a zillion calories - who cares? Just cut down on other things. And I understood this comment box was for her recipes - not her personality. She certainly loves life and it shows! So there! Who said a muffin should be sweet? Better check it out!

You know it astounds me that people can write in and rate this recipe calling it 'horrible, tasteless and grease balls" when you look at the amount of excellent ratings compared to the few bad ones it is obviously user malfunction. I highly doubt if these were as awful as the few claim they are that they would be a top seller in her restauraunt OR that they were included in EVERY Bag lady meal she sent out when getting her business started and everyone raved about them... It is an excellent recipe, a rare treat due to the caloric content for us but indeed a very good, tried and true southern muffin that 99.9% of everyone that tries them loves!
I am not crazy about her personality, she is a little too old in my opinion to be as flirty as she is but to each their own. Regardless of that Paula has proven herself to be an excellent cook, (NO not chef she never claimed to be a chef but she makes millions with her cooking, her restaurant that is near impossible to even get a seat in and her books that have made the top sellers lists. So I find it pretty ironic when people come in here, rate her low claiming to be 'excellent cooks" themselves and say she stinks etc... Look, if the recipe did not turn out for you, re try it or move on but this is a tried and true recipe that is one of her claim to famers. I learned long ago, if I had nothing nice to say then dont say anything. Ok we all know she is overly fond of butter but then so was Julia Child... I guess next people will say Julia could not cook? WTG Paula, many of us out here are happy for you and know that you have proven yourself to be an amazing cook. Congrats on a great recipe!

I make these all the time for my family. In fact, it's "mandatory" that I make them for all the holiday meals! I use I Can't Believe It's Not Butter rather than real butter because we found that making them with real butter was a bit too rich. This is a super easy recipe that tastes great too!

these were so good fresh out of the oven... I had one today wrapped in a paper towel and reheated for 20 seconds in the microwave.. Still good but better fresh out of the oven... I am going to try one not heated at all and see how that is... But these are so delish right out of the oven!!!!!

Delicious! I used 1/2 and 1/2 fat free sour cream and yogurt, the two sticks of butter, and mine were delicious and still rich. I'm sorry, I don't think I'm a better cook than Paula, but there is something in me that forces me to "mess with" recipes, and additionally, I am diabetic and I have to cut down on the calories wherever I can, but I see no way this could have been any better, even had I used full fat sour cream and yogurt.

I am a great cook Paula and went by this recipe except baked a little longer. Did not burn, Lightly browned as it should but it tasted like cornbread batter before it is baked. My husband has never in 28 years said a bad thing about my cooking but described this as "awefull"..... I guess it is time that I got a bad review from my family but this is a first for me. I don't think you can "doctor" it in any way to make it work. Dissapointed because it was sooo easy and I hoped it would be delicious.
Love so many of your recipes and hey... we can't be perfect all the time can we?

These muffins are wonderful. I came in as you were taking them out of the oven. I thought they were biscuits.
I went to your site to get the recipe. These are now my new "biscuits". Thanks Paula
P. S. I could'nt fine the calories listed on the website. I would love to know how many calories are in these.
