    Mixed in a little ham. Great stuff!! Make sure you bake this on a sheet pan or foil, just in case.

    Paula, you never cease to amaze me!!!!!!! This was wonderfully southern and will definitely make again! Very tasty. I forgot, be sure to drain some of juice from can of beans or it will be soupy.

    Maybe because this is a southern recipe and tastes are different but their was no flavors other than opening a can of Pork N Beans. I like Paula's dishes and I have tried many but this is not a keeper.

    Yummy! These beans were sooo good. After reading the reviews, I only made two alterations. I cooked the bacon first. Not to crunchy, but enough to get it started and to render fat. Then I cooked the onions in the bacon grease until translucent. After that, I followed the recipe. When I told my mom about this bean dish, she said, “That’s how I make them.” Of course they were fabulous! Thanks Paula.

    I really think this recipe was a mismatch for what I was looking for. So perhaps I'm rating it overly harshly due to that reason, but I thought it was sweet without any good depth to back it up, and didn't have any compelling flavors that made me want to eat more. The onions (put in raw didn't end up soft and succulent...I think they should be cooked first, before adding the other ingredients. Won't be making this one again.

    I made this a couple of days ago and it was very good-I will cook the bacon first next time as I am not a fan of soft bacon. Other than that, I may make it again.

    I made this for a neighborhood party. I did triple the recipe and made it in the crock pot. Paula, fabulous!!!! I have been asked for the receipe by several of my neighbors. I know this is an easy recipe to make-I however am a terrible cook. To make something that gets rave reviews makes me happy!! Love you!

    This almost identical to a baked bean recipe I made up about 20 yrs ago. I usually triple the recipe because everyone likes them so much. I dice a pound of bacon and fry til not quite crisp before adding to the beans and save all but about 2 tbs of the fat in my bacon grease can. In the 2 tbs of bacon fat I saute the onion til soft before adding to the beans, Also I add a pound of Farmer John Smoked Sausage cut length wise into quarters then into bite sized pieces and a large can of pineapple tidbits drained. Next time I make them I'll add the lemon juice.

    I can't find this recipe on Paula's website. I might not have her correct website. Does anyone have it? Also, on her website, is the name of the recipe exactly the same as it is here, "Southern Baked Beans"? Thanks.
