I was a little disappointed on how these turned out. I used a small round cookie cutter, and they spread out and flattened out as they cooled. I chilled the dough over night. I also added about 1/2 tsp of grated nutmeg and was glad I did. The nutmeg really gave them good flavor. I made these for special occasion and they didn't look appetizing.

I've been looking for my Grandmother's Tea Cakes for years but couldn't find one. When I saw this recipe I was quite sure but decided to give them a try. I saw another recipe from another website called Buttermilk Cookies that looked similar to this recipe and decided to combine the two. I used butter, 4 tea vanilla, buttermilk, 4 eggs, sugar, 4 tea baking powder, 2 tea soda, and the flour. I also added 1 tea almond extract and walnuts. It was excellent. My Husband loved them also. Thanks for bringing back the good memories.
