Not sweet enough for my taste, but I think that's why everyone else loves them. The dough was really hard to work with, sticky and gooey. By the time I put so much flour on the board to work with them I think it changed the texture. However, my husband put them in the cookie jar for a day, they were nice and comforting he loves them also. I sprinkled red sugar sprinkles on top of them for Valentine's day. I gave my neice the recipe and she added allspice to the dough, nice. Very versitile. This receipe is a keeper.

I was a little disappointed on how these turned out. I used a small round cookie cutter, and they spread out and flattened out as they cooled. I chilled the dough over night. I also added about 1/2 tsp of grated nutmeg and was glad I did. The nutmeg really gave them good flavor. I made these for special occasion and they didn't look appetizing.

I've been looking for my Grandmother's Tea Cakes for years but couldn't find one. When I saw this recipe I was quite sure but decided to give them a try. I saw another recipe from another website called Buttermilk Cookies that looked similar to this recipe and decided to combine the two. I used butter, 4 tea vanilla, buttermilk, 4 eggs, sugar, 4 tea baking powder, 2 tea soda, and the flour. I also added 1 tea almond extract and walnuts. It was excellent. My Husband loved them also. Thanks for bringing back the good memories.

My great grandmother used to make tea cakes for us when we were little. She lived about an hour away and we would go to her house for every holiday. Us kids always looked forward to the big jar of tea cakes we knew would be there!
These tea cakes are a wonderful reminder of those times!

Well I was fooled by the reviews of those who made this particular Tea Cake. This tea cake lacked taste so I added nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice to the dough for more flavor and even a little almond abstract. With these added ingrediance, It still lacked that taste that I loved growing up. Instead of a "Yum" as Paula Dean says, this is tea cake is more of a dud. I guess I set my expectations to high on this one.

I made these cookies to give away to my colleagues at work and they were a huge hit. I added some ginger, nutmeg, and a dash of cinnamon to the mix and they were fabulous. My husband said that they reminded him of some of the treats he used to have back in Jamaica. Very moist and great with a spot of tea.
