I've made these, with variations, for years. Try using fresh spinach, sauteeing onion or shallots; use grated Reggiano and chopped fresh herbs. I like using Cremini or baby Portabella mushrooms for added flavor.

I really found these quite easy to make. They taste great. I gave them only 4 stars because, I baked them for 20 minutes and found that they needed at least 25 to 30 minutes. Mine were a little bit soggy, but that didn't stop my son from eating them all up.

It sounded great but it just didn't have much flavor. And, it was definitely not cheap to make. I think a little salt might have helped.

these were good, but very rich and heavy even after I cut a couple of layers of the phyllo

Great appetizer for a party. My guests loved them, including the guy who claimed to hate spinach! It's a must make item at least once a month now in my house.

I tried this recipe and wasn't very pleased. I've never tried Gruyere cheese, and I may never again. It smells like a latex glove, and doesn't taste much better. However, if you like this cheese you may be more pleased with this recipe. I'm not always thrilled about spinach either, but the cheese was definately the low point of this recipe. Paula's meat loaf, however, was fantastic.

i absolutely love this recipe and tried making it even though i 'd never ever baked in my life!!
it turned out very well and all my friends loved it.
i made some changes in it by using spring onions and parmesan cheese instead of spinach and gruyere cheese and also added garlic to it.
thank you paula for finally making a baker out of me,waheeda.

I made these this morning for card group along with spice cake (had to use carrot cake mix, couldn't find spice Anyway, I used Jarsburg cheese sliced from the deli counter and just layed it on rolled puff pastry then put the spinach and mushroom on, it was so good, everyone asked for the recipe and that's a good sign at our group. Not a one left, they ate them all and I have to say they were delicious.

This is a wonderful starter for any party. It is also a great way to get your family to eat spinach. My family loved it. Can't wait to make it again. Thanks Paula!
