Love it. Made it as stated by boiling water in microwave in large glass pyrex batter bowl, added sugar, whisked, reheated and repeated until sugar dissolved then added rest of ingredients and stirred with whisk until smooth. A pantry must have recipe, as well as powdered milk. No more breaking baking momentum for a can of sweetened condensed milk.
Thank you Paula and Food Network for sharing.

I was in a pinch and did not want to run to the grocery store. I was very happy when I checked on foodnetwork.com and found this recipe. Works great and I always have powdered milk on hand. Thank you Paula.

While this is a tried and true recipe, it is also very unhealthy.

Here is an alternative which is much healthier and just as easy to make.

1 1/3 cup dry milk powder or plain/vanilla protein powder

    1/2 cup water

Either 1/2 cup Splenda or 1 1/4 tsp liquid Stevia.

Mix powder and water until it forms a paste.

Heat in a saucepan on medium until hot, but not boiling.

Remove from heat and stir in sweetener.

Place in the fridge for 2 hours.

FYI - Stevia can have a bitter aftertaste if it has less than 90% Steviosides and 30% Rebaudioside(A. If you use one that does not have these ratios, reduce the Stevia by 1/3 in any recipe. In this case, change from 1 1/4 to 2/3 tsp + 1/8 tsp.

Enjoy! This is just as delicious and MUCH healthier!

I have had to alter a bit, as I am Lactose intolerant. Many are, you know. I do love you and you recipes, as well as you are very entertaining. A "real" person. Ya know what I mean? I have used many of your recipes, with my needed adjustments (sometimes it took several tries, though due to the "milk" thing, but all is well. I am a nurse, for many years, and do know how to adapt. My favorite recipe for the condensed milk, is one that a friend gave to me for the holidays for Bailey's Irish Cream, YUM YUM. Thank you Paula.......Emily Sorensen, Kingman, Arizona (formerly from Ohio, many years ago.

This is great. I am ashamed to say that I'm used to making the inevitable last-minute trip to the grocery store to get sweetened condensed milk when I'm making dessert. This recipe will ensure that I NEVER have to do that again! Thanks a million, Paula. By the way -your accent is NOT fake or overly-syrupy - I'm a steel-magnolia Southern girl, too, and I ought to know!!
