I watched this being made on Paula's show. I wrote down everything and paid close attention to this recipe and the directions she gave while preparing the Swiss Steak.
Looked easy - went right out and bought the ingredients and made it this afternoon. She said to simmer it for about one and a half hours. As I write this, the serving size pieces of round steak are floating in a whole lot of liquid for going on the third hour. The meat is tougher than horse hide.
I got on the net to double check the recipe printed on the website. Yep, same as TV ---except I see- notice note -to ensure tenderness, it is necessary to have the butcher run the round steak through a cuber. WHAT?!?......... Did she say that on TV??
I hope my family enjoys the vegetable soup for dinner.

I have made Swiss Steak several times and the meat was always tough. I used this recipe and it was great. The meat was tender, cut with fork. The dish was very flavorful and was really great. Thanks for another great recipe

Watched this on TV an it reminded me of some of Mom's cooking. It was really good, only thing I changed was instead of a can of water, I used a can of red wine. I didn't do in the crock pot, I just put on top of the stove on very low for 2 hrs...perfect.

This is the best swiss steak I've ever tasted and so very easy to prepare. I followed Paula's recipe exactly and simmered it on top of the stove for about 3 hours. It was so tender and flavorful.

Okay, but nothing special - rather bland and plain.

I cooked everything in my Magnalite Dutch Oven. I cooked it on a gas stove on Low for about 2hrs covered. Every 30 mins I would stir it. It did need added salt and pepper for taste. My family wants it again! Served this over cooked rice.

what a disapointment!! This is the first (and with so many other chefs on the nework probably the last recipe of Paula's I will try. True, the house smelled great, and everyone commented on it after a long day at school and work. Unfortunately, with the first bite, I looked around and could see by the expressions on the faces that this was a loser. Thank God I was able to blame it on Paula!!
The dish was bland and justwhat you'd expect from a very cheap cut of meat. YUCK!!!!!
