I give this five stars. The reason is it is a comfort food ,in my opinion. No ,it is not very spicey but it is a good , homey recipe. I know it works in a slow cooker but the iron dutch oven brings out more flavor. I have made it several times. I dredge in cornstarch instead of flour and I don't use garlic powder, as I feel the fresh is enough. I don't think those two changes are enough to really alter the recipe. I love it over brown rice ,with a dusting of parmesan cheese . Also, this is one recipe that really needs ample ammounts of salt and fresh ground pepper. Make sure to stir about once every half hour because it keeps it from sticking. Then I must add, I always have a homemade bread with it that is slathered with, yes, there I said it, REAL BUTTER !!! Thanks Paula !!

This recipe is delicious! My husband and I love it! I added some mushrooms to the recipe, too. I have found that if I make a little extra 'gravy' with it and put the leftovers in the frig, I can make hamburger steaks later in the week and it is delish as well. Thanks, Paula!

WOW! This dish was terrific! I don't usually rate recipes unless I follow them exactly, but I am making an exception. I wanted beef and green peppers; I found this recipe! I did not have any canned tomatoes, so I substituted a half of a can of tomato sauce and a half of a can of salsa. I also used beef broth instead of water. Wonderful, thank you Paula! Side note; this must be the only recipe of Paula's that does not contain butter :

This wasn't mind-blowing or anything new, but it was exactly what I wanted! Good yummy comfort food that reminded me of my childhood. It was simple to make and budget friendly and we loved it. I will definitely make it again.

I am an experience cook and was looking forward to this recipe. I followed it to the letter and must say it was one of the biggest disappointments I have had in a long time. My husband who will eat almost anything did not like it at all. I won't recommend it nor will I ever make it again......Sorry Paula

This is close to how I make Swiss steak; I don't use bell peppers though. My family LOVES my Swiss steak and it is even better the next day (if there are any leftovers.

This was delicious! I used beef stock instead of the water, added some extra garlic, tossed in a couple of stalks of celery (chopped and eliminated the peppers, since my son doesn't like them. But the meat was very tender, and the sauce was really tasty. I served it over rice and it got rave reviews at our table. I would definitely make this again. Comfort food at it's finest, but what did you expect from the Paula, the Queen of Comfort Food, y'all!
