Excellent recipe. I've made it several times, and the family loves it. I even made a huge crock pot full for a Christmas lunch at work, with rave reviews. As usual, there are always recipe reviews posted here where there is one person that hates it, but thinks that they are right... obviously not!

Hey 'buffaloatheart' didn't you know taco seasoning and ranch dressing had preservatives in it before you made the recipe? Why did you make the soup in the first place? We liked it and the soup is very good.
I think you wanted to hate the recipe before you tried it.

I've been making this soup for years. Don't skip the ranch it's really important to the recipe. I only add one or two cans of tomatoes (I use what I have on hand doesn't seem to make a difference. I use 3 different types of beans (black, pinto, and kidney, the corn, an entire chopped red onion, the diced chilies, and the taco seasoning. To make it healthier I use extra lean 99% fat free turkey and omit the olives. Just extra fat.

This recipe was a total winner and I would definitely make again, except I would use 2 packages of Taco seasoning, as we thought it needed just a little more seasoning flavor. My son and husband loved it and it's sooo easy to make. (I made it in a pot on the stove. Way to go Paula and not one bit of butter!!

I made this the other day. My husband and I LOVED IT! It made a lot, so I shared it with my neighbor and his son. They LOVED IT! and I mean they raved about it. I didn't drain the corn either, to make it more of a soup than a stew. I also topped it with avocado...so creamy!! It was delicious. This one is a KEEPER!!

This is a great soup. I lightened it up a little with 1# ground turkey and 1# ground beef. It turned out more like a thick chili than soup so I added 3 cups of water and 3 tsp chicken base. For weight watchers fans it was only 7 points for 1 1/2 cups. Wonderful tasting soup.

Did not like at all. Loaded with preservatives thanks to the packets of taco seasoning and ranch dressing. Tastes very processed. Just awful. I am surprised at how many positive reviews there are on here, but probably most americans have grown to like the taste of processed ingredients. Paula has some great recipes, but this one is a real dud. I will definitely not make again.

I added the juice of two limes and fresh cilantro! Used ground turkey breast instead of hamburger and added another can of tomatoes with chipoltes.
I also cut up tortillas into narrow strips and lightly sprayed them with olive oil ,sprinkled with chili pepper and baked on 400 for 10 minutes to sprinkle on top.Really fresh DELISHIMO!

The texture of the corn does not work for this tasty soup. I recommend substituting the corn with hominy. It is a go to favorite of mine and my family's. I have tinkered with adding a bit of corn starch at the end to thicken it... we prefer the thick heartiness!
