A stunning bit of a confection. The cake itself is not so rich, like a finer grained banana bread. The black walnuts go perfectly with the caramel undertones. The frosting is rich and I'm going to work on the texture to make it lighter/fluffier. Maybe a caramel cream cheese frosting? All in all, a touch of the Old South. Divine!

This review is for the frosting alone. Although delicious, it has the consistency of soft fudge. It does not stick to the cake for frosting it, it falls off. It took a LOT of work to fix it and get it to be actual frosting that was smooth and spread over the cake. Perhaps Paula can rework it a bit so it will be a smoother frosting, I added more softened butter not melted and more powdered sugar to get it smooth.

Before the show was even over my husband was checking to see if we had all the ingredients we (I would need to make this cake--soo0 yummy and the frosting is out of this world! It turned out just a bit dry but we had some ice cream with it so it didn't matter. I think I used a bit too much flour. We'll be sharing with family and neighbors since it's just the 2 of us now. I didn't make the cake either, just the frosting. The frosting was soooo delicious! I topped it on chocolate cupcakes and no one could get enough of it! Easy to make and delish!

I made this cake using regular walnuts. We all loved it. It is a little crumbly. We heat it a few seconds in the microwave and it's delicious

I am not going to lie I did not make the cake, I was looking for a easy carmel icing to put on a chocolate cake and this icing was it!!! I use it all of the time and every time I make it the cake is gone in one day, it also works great on cupcakes and cookies.

In your recipe it calls for baking soda but while I was following your directions it says nothing about putting in the baking soda so I forgot to put it in my cake.. It tastes really weird as well, I just made this cake for my fathers birthday because black walnut is his favorite but I'm not sure if its going to turn out!

i was disappointed with this recipe. the cake came out dry...which is almost unheard of for banana cake! the frosting tastes good but is difficult to work with when you get it on the cake. i would not make this again.
