I made this cake for my moms birthday and everyone really liked it. The caramel frosting was a really good compliment to the cake.

I bake fairly often and should have noticed by the frosting ingredients that it is basically a penuche frosting. Delicious, rich, and fudgelike, penuche hardens quickly. You really have to move fast when using it! This should have been noted in the instructions. Also, the frosting wouldn't stick to the cake; as I spread it on, it rolled right off. The cake was a little dry. All told, the black walnuts and penuche frosting overpowered any banana taste. A cream cheese frosting would be a much better choice for banana cake... but I'm not the expert here.

This tasted exactly like banana nut cake. It's good, but you cannot taste the caramel frosting really.

I love Paula (I don't like butter so my products aren't exactly like hers, however for those of you that did not get the results you expected, I checked this recipe against one I have had for approx. 45 years. The only difference is: add 1/4 teaspoon baking powder, 3/4 teaspoon of baking soda and one cup of ripe mashed banana. This produces a really moist, dense cake. With banana cake you will not find a light cake, because the bananas cause it to be dense. Try Paula's recipe again with these changes and I bet you will be happy with this cake.

After adjusting some ingredients based on the reviews it still came out dry, overcooked and too sweet. A major disapointment!
