After reading all the reviews, I became very concerned about the possibility that the cake would be dry. So, I made several modifications. I used 3 ripe bananas, 1 jar banana baby food, vegetable oil instead of crisco, and I cooked it for 30 minutes instead of 35 minutes. If I had cooked it for a minute longer, the cake would have dried out. It turned out very good. I would only recommend this cake for those who are sure they like black walnuts. I am still acquiring a taste for them. Also, I think the frosting calls for too much vanilla.

Every year for Christmas, we do a baking pollyanna. I try to get my parents because they love when I try something new. I tried this recipe and it was delicious! The cake was moist and delicious. The icing was to die for. I even had some left over it made so much. Anyway, I always love Paula's recipes and this one was a definite winner!! You go, girl!!

This recipe was not worth the calories.
It was dry and not all that flovorful.
I can only think maybe my bananas weren't ripe enough. Frosting was great

My husband loves black walnuts so I thought I would make this cake for Thanksgiving. It was a big disappointment. Way too sweet and not very tasty. It was a waste of time, effort and ingredients.

This was a very delicious & moist cake, although I do have to say my husband was not fond of the frosting. It's a very thick frosting, but I thought it went well w/the cake. Maybe just not so much as it is very sweet.

First off, I just want to say that I LOVE Paula!!
However, I just tried this recipe today. The cake came out great! IT was moist etc!. Love the frosting! However, this cake did not have me running for more!
I tried it out as a test, to see if I should make it for Thanksgiving!
I would have to say no, it is not going on my menu.

I was a little reluctant to make this cake because it just looked really sweet, but to my surprise it wasn't. I took a few slices to work and everyone really enjoyed it. Now its requested again. It actually melts in your mouth.
