I tried it as instructed and it was way too sweet for my family. The next try I got it right. I cut the sugar by half or more and didn't use the sauce (the egg makes me uneasy. You can use store bought caramel sauce (spike it if you wish or just plain old whipped cream. Delicious! I am not a fan of bread pudding..very picky in fact. This recipe and Bahama Breeze's recipe are it for me.

I loved this recipe and so did my family. I only did 1 cup of sugar instead of two. i also added cinnimon and rasins to give it my own touch. But it was easy to make and I've been asked to make it for other events!!!!

This recipe was really easy and absolutely delicious. I'm going to use this recipe again for Thanksgiving. I opted to leave the praline sauce out. I didn't want it to be to sweet.

I've tried this recipe 3 times thinking that I had done something wrong but each time with the same result. For one thing it is way too sweet. It's almost like eating warm sugar. Then adding the brown sugar and nut topping was way over the top. Bread pudding should be more of a custard and not the result that I got with Paula's recipe. I won't try this ever again as I am retired and the ingredients are too costly to throw away and my attempts to have bread pudding have been trashed. I love Paula's show and have enjoyed other recipes of hers but this one should be filed away and not ever used again. I have several bread pudding recipes and they all call for a lot less sugar and they turn out like bread pudding.

This is my first time making bread pudding and I have to say that this recipe is very easy. The end result was beautiful to look at and really delicious. After reading all the comments I decided to use a lot less sugar since I don't like really sweet desserts and it turned out wonderfully. I had a whole bag of costco italian sandwich loafs that went stale so I made a huge batch but with a lot less sugar. It was 4 times the amount of bread (12 cups cubed bread and I used 2 cups of sugar, 15 eggs, 6 cups milk, 6 teaspoons vanilla. For the topping I used 1 cup brown sugar-not packed 1/4 cup butter, and 1 cup chopped walnuts. The texture of the bread pudding was great with a custard like texture but the pieces at the top still held some of its shape. The topping really made it unique . The main portion was not sweet at all but the sprinkling of topping gave it the extra sweetness. I loved it plain but I am going to make some of the sauce tonight for my boyfriend who believes that with the sauce he may be in danger of finishing the entire rest of the pan himself. Will make this again for sure!

Very good recipe, but way, way too sweet. The next time I make it I will try using a lot less sugar. The flavor remind me of french toast

It's a good recipe and as almost everybody else I think that is too much sugar so i only used 1 cup and 1/2 cup of the brown sugar, I also added cinnamon and it gives it a wonderful smell, for sure I will try it again! I love Paula's recipes they are easy and very taste mmmm... :
