This was an excellent recipe but I made it once and it was too sweet so the next time I cut the sugar in half and it was perfect.

Hello! This was my first ever bread pudding : It was very yummy, and like most, I also cut down the sugar. I only used 3/4 cup in the bread pudding mixture. I did make my own sauce however since I didn't have any brandy and didn't feel like going to the store at 830 at night. So, my sauce was: milk, 1 egg, 1/2 tsp vanilla, sugar, and white chocolate liquor. I just kind of threw everything together. It was really yummy!!

I would of gave this recipe 5 stars except for the fact that it is way too sweet. I cut the sugar in half because I read the reviews before I made the pudding, but it was STILL too sweet for my liking. next time I will cut the sugar down even more. Other than that, this pudding is delicious, and my husband thought it was very good. it is a little time consuming, but it is well worth it. you can taste the depth in the flavors.

OMG --way toooo sweet. The first time I made this I followed the directions exactly. The result was unateable -- had to trash it. I did read the reviews but as a rule the first time I try a recipe, I following the instructions. I will give it another try -- this time with 1/2 the sugar for both the custard and topping. A bit more bread also seems like a good idea. Paula I love you but I think you may need to revise this recipe. I remain a devoted fan and follower.

This was a very easy to follow recipe and came out amazing. I changed a few things: use half milk and half heavy cream, cut down a little on the sugar, and instead of brandy I used a hazelnut liquor. Everyone loved it and it is now my "go to" dessert for any get togethers!

Delicious! I think this is best served warm! For my boyfriend who is Romanian, I substitued their traditional rum instead of brandy and he loved it. Tonight I am trying Ameretto!

I am diabetic so I substituted "sugar" with Splenda (for the granulated and brown sugars. We don't care for nuts in food so we substituted that with raisins soaked in Bailey's Irish Cream. We loved the dessert and the changes we made!!

This recipe is too sweet. The pudding alone calls for 2.5 cups of sugar, and the sauce adds another cup of sugar.

    Stay away

HOLY COW!! I knew I wanted a little fruit in mine so I peeled cored and sliced 2 Bosc pears to line my buttered dish. I used 6 handfuls of the cubed bread, 4 eggs, 1 cup sugar, 2 cups milk (2%, 1 tablespoon cinnamon and 2 teaspoons vanilla. I used walnut pieces instead of pecans. I used Rum instead of Brandy and 1/2 cup sugar in the sauce. I CANT BELIEVE I MADE THIS AMAZING DESSERT!! My son wanted the whole dish and my mom said it was the best she ever had!! Thank you Paula!!
