I loved this recipe and will be using it alot more.I did not make the sauce and took out 1/2 cup of sugar only because the reviews thought it was to sweet. It was perfect thank you Paula.

I would give this zero stars if I could. This is horrible. Way too much sugar even before you add the sauce. I even cut back on the sugar after reading the other reviews. I couldn't eat it, and I love desserts and sweet things.
I'm really surprised this was posted as a recipe. Very poor. What a waste of ingredients.

I think the bread pudding was incredible!!! I actually didn't use stale bread (I just didn't have time and I filled my pan 3/4 of the way full nit just 3 cups. I think it cut the sugar so it wasn't so sweet

This was my first time making bread pudding! Although I love it and it is my favorite dessert I had never attempted it. I didn't have any pecans on hand so made it without. I must say it was still the best bread pudding I've ever had.All my family and guests loved it! Next time i'm adding the pecans because i'm sure that will make it even more amazing!! And it wasn't hard either. I just bought the day old specialty bread at the store and didn't have to wait for it overnight. Thumbs up Paula! Now I want to know if your son has a lower calorie version yet?

I made this pudding before Christmas. I cut the sugar down like some of the other reviewers said to do it was very very creamy and oh soooo good. I used french bread that I let dry out. Than let the milk mixture sit for about 45 minutes on the bread before I finished it.
I am going to make it again tomorrow and serve it after corn chowder and spinach salad. I can't wait to have it again.

I followed the recipe exactly as written and unfortunately, for my family, this recipe is way too sweet. I think for anyone considering this recipe, the sugar needs to be cut in half. After scooping two dishfuls, I found pools of sugary syrup at the bottom of my 9 x 13 pan...this for me means that the bread is saturated and the quantity of "sauce" recommended far exceeds the amount needed. I would also suggest cutting the amount of butter, sugar and brandy required to make the sauce.

This is the best recipe for bread pudding. My husband does not like deserts as sweet as I do so I only place a little topping on his side and the rest on the other half. He said it is the best he also has eaten and he rarely enjoys deserts. I do not use the sauce but I may try it the next it time. I grew up without a sauce. I think your recipes are fabulous

My family and I loved this recipe. I substituted the bread for the leftover dried fruit bread (the one that is only out at the holidays that we had used for french toast earlier and instead of brandy we used spiced rum - delicious - eating leftovers tonight. Love everything I have tried that has Paula Dean's name tagged to it.

This really is the best bread pudding I've ever had. I have an old standby bread pudding recipe that I've used for years and this was sooo much better. I used whiskey instead of the brandy in the sauce and added raisins with the brown sugar topping. Everybody loved it.
