I had about 3 roma tomatoes that I needed to use, so I diced those up and threw them in with the canned tomatoes. I bumped up the garlic to three cloves. I increased the cottage cheese to two 16 oz containers (lowfat, mixed with two eggs, 1/2 cup parmesan, 1 T. Italian seasoning, and fresh ground black pepper. This was just the right amount for the entire lasagna. Had I not increased it, I doubt I would have had enough for two layers. I did use the Gruyere cheese, but was out of Swiss so I substituted colby-jack blend that I had on hand. The mixture of cheeses was quite nice - and the cream cheese was an unexpected surprise. Terrific flavor and texture in the finished product.

I will be the first to say that I use a shortcut and use store bought sauce. I use something that is natural and simple flavor (like tomato basil or traditional and then doctor it up a little with onions, garlic and oregano. The classic filling is great! I have also used chicken and frozen spinach instead of ground beef which is probably more popular in my house.

Let's see, where do I start. This lasagna was delicious. My family, friends and enemies loved this! The gruyere made it so smooth! I cannot believe how easy and delicious this was. Everyone could not believe that this was my first time making home made lasagna. To be honest, I couldn't believe it either! Yummy...you have to try it. It was so delicious that someone told me I should enter my job cook-off. I'm thnking about it...even if I don't win, I know that this is not a Last Place Lasagna! Yummy! Thanks Paula!

This recipe is only a few steps off the lasagna I am famous for!... And it is better! I use a lot of mozarella but, I really like the different cheeses in this recipe better. The cream cheese makes it really special! I don't know if I will use quite so much cream cheese (8oz or just pinch it off more finely and spread it out more. My neighbors were over and just loved it. I did finally fess up to changing it up a little from my usual recipe. I love cottage cheese in lasagna vs. ricotta and my husband is Italian and loves it too. Gruyere cheese is expensive but you only need a half a block and it stores for a long time in the fridge. I will try changing out to fontina, like the reviewer earlier suggested, or smoked mozarella. Good eats!

Paula, Paula, Paula you have done it again! Without a doubt this is the best lasagna I've ever made! I recently made this for my family and friends at the beach and we all loved it. Even my daughter who is a picky eater loved it and has already asked me to make it again!
The only change I made was that I used ready to bake lasagna noodles and instead of the house seasoning mixture I just added some pepper to taste. It was so easy to make and took some time but it was definitely worth it!

I followed the recipe to a tee, except I did 1/2 ground beef and 1/2 sweet turkey sausage instead of all ground beef. Oh, and I used ricotta instead of cottage, since that's what I had in the house. But for those two changes, I followed it exactly and, boy, was it awesome! Make sure you cook it uncovered so that the sauce has a chance to solidify a bit to the noodles and not be so runny. And as for those who say it's too salty? Not in my book, but I do love salt. So if you are not a huge salt fan, I'd use less than it calls for.

I am picky about lasagna but I tried this and WOW! It was a hit. I really enjoyed it and so did my family. It is not a complicated dish and it re-heats well later.
