I love to cook! I love to eat! My kids think I'm the best cook EVER! I cook tons of dishes and this is one of our all time favorites! It's healthy, delicious, has fabulous textures and it's so pretty to look at. It looks just like the picture! I have made it with fresh okra....I actually prefer frozen okra, just because once it's all stewed together, you can't really tell the difference. I've made it with canned tomatoes, which is great. Yet, I've also made it with blanced fresh pealed Roma tomatoes when I didn't have canned on hand, and added a small can of tomato sauce to it when using fresh and a shot of chicken broth. I fry the bacon sometimes and set the bacon aside and crumble it onto it right before serving. Adds yet another texture. I have cut back on the sugar and even added Spenda at the end when not wanting to put sugar into it. All is good! You just can't go wrong if you stay with the basic plan of bacon, onions, tomatoes and okra and let it simmer without the lid for it to thicken up and get happy all together! My kids love it...my father in law thinks I hung the moon, my entire extended family loves it for a change at Thanksgiving instead of all the usual holiday stuff. I can't say enough good things about this awesome okra recipe. OH...I ALWAYS double, triple of make just as much as I have ingredients for. It's always eaten and even as a leftover...it's awesome, too!

I love okra and this recipe was just awesome. My aunt just gave me some fresh okra and I added a habanero pepper for a little heat. I literally could not put my fork down. Thanks Paula this was great!

This was so delicious! It reminded me of my relatives in Texas and the stewed okra and tomatoes I loved there. The bacon is so good in this recipe too. Another great recipe from Paula!

Next time I make this I will fully cook the bacon before adding the onions.I spent 30 minutes picking out bacon fat that wasn't crispy. No one in my house would've touched this with chunks of bacon fat ..yuck.This dish has a great taste. The only thing I added was a few, okay, alot, of red pepper flakes.

This was great! Very easy to fix. I used Splenda instead of sugar. I used 3 packets..next time i may just use 2.

This okra dish was delicious and not slimy at all. I used turkey bacon and frozen okra for a healthier and quicker dish. It was really great!

We had never eaten okra before we saw Paula prepare this dish. We tried it the same week and fell in love with the flavors and the ease of prep. The basic recipe allows for adjustments in both content and seasonings without sacrificing the the really good taste and texture of the main ingredients. Thank you Paula
