I watched Ms. Deen make this as a guest on a morning tv program. It looked so good and creamy and all the hosts raved. What she made there could NOT have been this recipe. The taste and texture was that of quiche. I don't think macaroni and cheese should be able to be served as a solid block or slice. I even tried it a second time with only one egg, and it still wasn't macaroni and cheese! I cannot believe this exact same recipe is posted several times on this website.

This seemed like it would be delicious--I was excited about the sour cream but now I'm bummed out about wasting it. I read several reviews before making it and tweaked it a bit--I only used one egg, didn't bake it too long etc. but it was dry and gloppy and the pasta (al dente beforehand was overcooked. Somehow, my husband liked it...

I've made this recipe many times. It is a big hit at my house. It is never dry, and it is creamy enough, but not too "saucy." The only changes I make to the recipe are (a to add the butter pieces, as well as the cheese, to the hot macaroni, and (2 to add a lot more cheese on top. You can use whatever type of cheddar you like, or use a combination of cheddar and some other cheese, and add bits of ham, too. This recipe is easier than some because it doesn't require a cooked white sauce with cheese added to it. If you like more tang to your macaroni and cheese, add some dijon mustard to the egg/milk mixture. Don't use evaporated milk because it makes an "off" taste to everything.

I've been looking at and wanting to make this recipe for years. I love all of Paula's stuff but this was, ahhh different. The eggs gave it the consistency of almost a quiche because they caused the casserole to puff up. Also, you could taste the eggs in it which is not what you want from mac and cheese. My recipe was always made with a basic white sauce that had cheese added to it and I hoped this would come out creamier but it didn't. It was dryer. Nevertheless, I trust Paula and 99% of the time her recipes are the best.

This is my 4th recipe from foodnetwork.com that I've tried for Macaroni & Cheese...this one is the best by far! However, I have to say that I only added 2 eggs instead of 3 because of a bad experience I had before with eggs in Mac & Cheese. It turned out AMAZING. It was so creamy and rich- I never thought I could make Macaroni & Cheese like this at home. This will be a staple at my house for years to come. Perfect!

I have been looking for an easy, fast mac and cheese recipe and here it is!!!! Thank you!!! My mom, who is cautious about trying new recipes even loved it's simplicity!! I don't know why some say it is dry, we even added 2 extra cups of macaroni (unexpected company and it still came out creamy and terrific!! I will make this today but will add some leftover Velveeta and see what happens but I love the original too, definitely the BEST SO FAR!!! AND THE EASIEST!!!
Thanks from Maine!

The 1st time I made it, it seemed dry and not cheesy enough. Then I realized I misread the recipe...dried OR cooked amounts of macaroni are different. I used the cooked amount of DRY macaroni, which made it too dry and not enough cheese. Finally made it right and it was the best. I do add a little extra cheese once in a while though. I've not made a Paula recipe yet that wasn't absolutely the best...and substituting low-fat ingredients does not hamper the taste. Be creative if you want to a healthier version.

I make this mac and cheese for every family get together. I referred to it as the adult mac and cheese. My young grandchildren love it as much as the adults. Now it's everyone's favorite. I make two casseroles to feed our crew. I'm making it for Thanksgiving this year. Thanks Paula!!!!!
I read some of the comments and I know these people must be doing something wrong!! I've never had it fail and I have very picky mac and cheese lovers in my family.

I have taken this dish to several parties with raves for the recipe! I've even put it in the refrigerator for several hours to let it chill then cut into squares. Everyone loves this recipe!
