Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup, plus 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup raisins

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Sift together the flour and baking powder. In a separate bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Add the 1/4 cup sugar, beating until pale and fluffy. Add the eggs, 1 at a time, then add the flour mixture and the buttermilk. Sprinkle the raisins over the dough and gently fold them in. Using an ice-cream scoop, place mounds of dough on a baking sheet and sprinkle with the remaining sugar. Bake for 20 minutes. Serve the scones warm, with softened butter and preserves.

I use 1 stick of butter flavored Crisco insead of butter and add 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg. I also plump the raisins in... boiling water for a few minutes before adding. Everyone (even young kids) that I've served these to love them. THANK YOU PAULA!!!Read more

These were really easy to make. But there was nothing special about them, they were just ok.

Paula, Thanks for the recipe. This is the 2nd time I've done it and just love how they turn out. I put extra raisins this... time and everyone LOVED them. Made 100 for a tea today. They are so easy to make and I added cinnamon which made them even more flavorful. Thanks again Paula. I plan to make these a lot more.Read more
