Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Sift together the flour and baking powder. In a separate bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Add the 1/4 cup sugar, beating until pale and fluffy. Add the eggs, 1 at a time, then add the flour mixture and the buttermilk. Sprinkle the raisins over the dough and gently fold them in. Using an ice-cream scoop, place mounds of dough on a baking sheet and sprinkle with the remaining sugar. Bake for 20 minutes. Serve the scones warm, with softened butter and preserves.

Wonderful !!! I tweaked these a bit, replacing the raisins with Craisins,it addds a nice vibrant color! I also add 1/8th cup of white chocolate chips and 1/4 tsp of almond extract. OMG so good !!

Easy to make- I pre- measure the dry ingredients, label which wet ingredients to add then store it in the fridge, first time I made them and they came out great- but I only got 9 instead of 12 from this recipe- guess I made them a little big!

These scones were soft, moist and delicious. The recipe is so easy to follow that I can make it anytime on a whim. There have been times where I used regular milk instead of buttermilk and they have come out just as yummy. I also alternate between raisins and craisins. Personally I like the craisins in them the best. I have made these scones as housewarming gifts, and also as hostess gifts. I usually put them in a cloth-lined wicker basket along with a bottle of strawberry preserves and they have always been a hit! Thanks Paula Deen :
