Picked up a large purple-topped turnip & some purple carrots from the farmer's market & only a few other ingredients makes the dish. MmMm so flippin good. The carrots make it sweet & the salt helps detract from the bitterness of the turnips.

Have been making this tasty side since I saw Paula make it many years ago. Is always requested for family gatherings, especially Thanksgiving. Didn't change a thing. Don't over do the brown sugar though. Leave that for you sweet potaoe sides. Thanks again Paula!

This is such a simple side and it tastes great too. I followed the recipe and added salt to balance the sweet , perfect.

I used the rutabagas. It was very quick and easy. I did add a pinch or two of allspice. The basic dish is excellent and does not need anything else. But just for fun, next time may add a few green peas for eye appeal or perhaps sliced uncooked cellery for crunch. If in an experimental mood, may put it in a Casserole add a crumb topping and brown it in the oven.

This was my first time trying this vegtable and this method of cooking. I had a great surprise - and to add on this - even the kids loved it. It's not an elegant dish - but it's a great winter dish for the whole family
