YUCK : ( Filling is like eating lard with sugar in it. And the chocolate cake isn't that good either. There has to be a better way to make filling and you would think Paula would know that.

This one gets one star from me! Im very upset with how this one turned out. They were tiny little dry rocks that were ashy brown at best! I like the filling though, but it takes some babying. It is not a cheap recipe to put together and since I have made them before a few years ago from a recipe in one of her books that my mother now has and it turned out beautifully.I figured that this would be the same recipe so I didnt check the reviews, sadly. Not cool to do to a poor college kid who had to scrape up these ingredients to try to make something nostalgic! The recipe is at least correct in her book, so Im calling out the internet recipe editors.

These were the absolute worst Gob cookies I have ever eaten. I have made gob cookies from other recipes in ages past and frequently make pumpkin gobs, none of which have ever required the tedious proceedures that these do. And all that tedium produced very light cakes about which my teenage daughter complained, "Uugh...These taste like water." (bland. I found that after beating the filling for an extended period of time the gritty texture was markedly diminished but the result was still quite bland. I actually threw out half a batch or more of batter and I would not recommend this recipe. I WILL recommend the recipe which I was working on at the same time as these gobs. Google: Best Ever Chocolate Cutout Cookies and you will find a recipe that is all it's cracked up to be and more. These cut-outs make a great foundation for ice cream sandwiches.

These were the worst Gobs/Whoopie Pies I've ever made. Bland, color too light, filling too gritty. I'm going back to my successful recipe I've used for years. I use Black Cocoa from King Arthur Flour and for the filling I use Dominoes Superfine sugar. Cakes come our really dark and filling is very smooth, no grittiness at all.

The batter was way to thick, luckily I saw the episode where these were made and knew how thin the batter should be. I think there could be more sugar and cocoa in the recipe. I added some hot water to thin the batter out.

This recipe made the worst gobs I've ever made/eaten! There is not nearly enough chocolate in them! The gobs I'm used to are a dark chocolate color and flavor and and are super moist. These were not. They were pretty flavorless. I would not make this recipe again and would never recommend it to anyone. We were going to make and send these to a friend but I'm too ashamed to give them to anyone.

I absolutely loved these cookies & I thought they were super easy. I loved the way they puffed up like little cakes. They were so soft & fluffy, all my friends loved them! I didn't like the filling at all though. I ended up adding some confectioners' sugar & marshmallow fluff. Next time I'll probably just make my own filling instead. When I baked them for 5 minutes, they came out perfect when my oven had been preheating for a while, but when I put another batch in just as it was preheated, they were a bit gooey in the middle...but still good! I ended up with WAY more cookies than it says the recipe makes.
