Best Apple Cake ever. I first learned about this cake some 40 years ago from a classmate who shared the recipe for the Apple Cake we baked in Senior Home Economics class. She said it was a family recipe. I didn't get the recipe at the time, but had been searching for the recipe ever since. 15 years ago a family friend shared this recipe with me, and I've been baking this cake since. It's definitely a family & friends favorite. The only modifications are that I use 1 1/2 cups nuts, 5 cups of apples and 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil. I don't use a glaze or icing. Sometimes I dust the top with a small amount of confectioners sugar. This cake stands on it's own, just simple goodness.

I was a little apprehensive about the thick batter. I added a little milk. This is delicious and not super sweet. The glaze and ice cream will add a lot of taste! Easy to make!

The taste was great ,but the texture was wierd . Difficult to slice without crumbling. Also recipe did not call for any milk. I found that wierd.

Yummy!!! Had gone apple picking, so I used those apples instead of Granny Smith. I left the skin on. The actual batter was a little bit too dry so added a touch of milk and one more egg. I also used whole wheat flour. Skipped the glaze (we don't need the extra sugar! It was a great hit. The mister asked me to make it again! That's a first!

Next time I make this I will add more cinnamon!
I made this for the first time last night and found it to be flavorful, but thought it needed a bit more spice. I think it could use 1/2 tsp of cinnamon and perhaps 1/2 tsp nutmeg added to the dry ingredients for extra depth of flavor. I substituted 1/4 cup of applesauce for 1/4 cup of the oil and I will not do that again. I think it needs all the oil for moisture.
Overall, a delicious cake and a perfect companion with a cup of tea this morning!

Absolutely fantastic! Very easy to make and it was a huge hit with all my friends. They have already requested that I make this for Thanksgiving. Very moist and tasty! Highly recommend.

This was great! I did make one substitution... use candied walnuts instead of toasted. They're just the right amount of sweet and everyone was raving about them!
