Great recipe. I would recommend tasting your ice cream first and if it isn't sweet than add the sugar.
item not reviewed by moderator and published
So I used Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Gelato and only 2 tablespoons of sugar. Topped off with whip cream and a a cherry. I'm lactose intolerant, but this is so worth it!! item not reviewed by moderator and published

This is amazing. I used strawberry icecream, and it still tasted amazing. My icecream was a little thawed so I figured one cube of ice per cup of icecream would work, and it did! This is really good! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Classic ...Awesome recipe item not reviewed by moderator and published
I've tried dozens of milkshake recipes, and although the basic ingredients are all quite similar, Paula's is the best I've tasted. The key is using a high quality ice cream; low quality brands seem to produce a grainy result. If you like thick shakes like my family, do as the recipe says and simply add less milk or more ice cream. For a chocolate shake, add chocolate syrup-- about 1:2 syrup:milk ratio. Sure beats the artificial "milk"shakes sold at fast-food chains. (Love You, Paula Deen.) item not reviewed by moderator and published
delicous omg best milkshake ever sooooooooooo good but i didn't put in any vanilla extract i didn't have it so nexy time i will try it with vanilla extract!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :::::::::::: item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was a really good milkshake. I used chocolate ice cream but I know it will be good with all different flavors of ice cream item not reviewed by moderator and published
little heavy on the sugar item not reviewed by moderator and published
Like everyone else is saying, could use less sugar and maybe a bit less vanilla extract. I made the original then ended up just doubling the recipe without adding anymore sugar or vanilla and it tasted great. That said, I've had good recipes that didn't use sugar or vanilla extract at all so maybe I just wasn't prepared for just how sweet this would be. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Great milkshake! When nobody's home and you want to make something quick and easy this is the way to go. I usually like a lot of sugar in pretty much anything, but this is way to much sugar. I would recommend using half the amount of sugar suggested or none. Same with the vanilla, half or none. The vanilla is a little bit too overpowering to the milkshake. Other then the sugar and the vanilla this is a very great milkshake. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I never made a milkshake at home prior to this recipe, but I will be making many more. I used mint chocolate chip ice cream and skipped the sugar, though I was generous with the vanilla. And it was amazing! I cannot wait to try other flavors and share some with friends and neighbors. Thanks Food Network and Paula Deen! I also threw in a little green food coloring to make it look more like the mint ice cream shop shake that my daughter was expecting. She loved it! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made an account just to comment on this, it was sooooooo good. The only thing was it was a little soupy. I used 2 cups of milk, so if you want it to be thicker then use less like the recipe says. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made it with chocolate ice cream instead and it was really delicious. If you are having a party I encourage everyone to make a little bit of both. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Im a 13 year old boy in california and i love to cook! This milkshake is the BEST!! THANKS PAULA DEEN!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
i am only 14 years old and i made it all by my-self i love it. after i came from outside playing with the puppies this milk shake was simply quick and easy to do and tasty. will never go to McDonald and get me a vanilla milk shake again thanks Paula Deen. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I was making these last summer for my daughter (and who am I kidding myself too!. Its fabulous!!! I did only use a teaspoon or 2 of sugar though as I felt 8 took away from the vanilla flavor and made it waaay too sweet. Put some whipped cream on top..yum!!! A must try, very authentic and so easy! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Very delicious and very easy! We cut the sugar down and it was still fabulous. My 7 year old daughter who is very picky about milkshakes loved it! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe was simple and to the point. It was extremely tasty and I would definitely prefer it over those from a fast food joint. Thanks a lot : item not reviewed by moderator and published

I tried it for a friend... he thought it was good but would have been better with a better quality ice cream and no vanilla. Besides that it was pretty good. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Simply yet great!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
You don't need the vanilla or the sugar. Just use the ice cream and milk and you have a great milkshake. item not reviewed by moderator and published
NICE!!! it was good 7 out of 10 a little to soupy item not reviewed by moderator and published
These are delicious! If you're not a sugar fan, I suggest leaving out the sugar. It all depends on the ice cream you use. The ice cream we used had enough sugar so we opted out on adding more. Overall, these were a big hit! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I thought these weren't so bad, but they bombed in our household! Nobody wants to drink theirs. What a waste! Everyone thought it was too sweet. I definitely don't recommend adding those eight tablespoons of sugar. I think that was a bit over the top. We used Friendly's French Vanilla ice cream... Don't know what happened. We made Bobby Flay's Double Chocolate Marshmallow Milkshakes yesterday and they were a big hit. Not a single drop leftover! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I did not use any sugar. A good quality ice cream has plenty of sugar. Yummy! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was so good! Thanks Paula!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
It is great but does not need this much sugar... I put in 1/2 Tbl of sugar and it is enough... my kids love this! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Best milkshakes EVER!!!! Incredible! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Delicious! I skipped the added sugar altogether and I think it's perfect! I threw in a brownie for a little something extra and I'll just say....YUM! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Please. Please. Please. If you make it, come back and leave a review and rank some reviews you find helpful or unhelpful. The premise of this recipe is fine. It's just simply too sweet. To the people who say this tastes like a McDonald's milkshake, I say you must be going to a different McDonald's. It's possible whoever transcribed the recipe wrote down tablespoon instead of teaspoon. Also, why are the people who say it's too sweet giving the recipe 5 stars? Surely this is worth some deduction? item not reviewed by moderator and published
best milkshake ever! period point blank item not reviewed by moderator and published
So, I was a bit skeptical about using the sugar due to other reviews. I guess I have a habit of doing what the recipe says, at least for the first time, so tried it with all of the sugar and all I can say is PERFECT! If you like Mcdonalds milkshakes you WILL like this one exactly as it is written in the recipe! I don't think I can change anything to make it better, except doubling the recipe LOL! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made it w/o the sugar and found it tasted fantastic - really the ice cream has all the sugar it needs. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Great and simple milkshake recipe! Vanilla extract is key. Thanks Paula! My husband loved it! :-) item not reviewed by moderator and published

Literally! Maybe it was my icecream, but that was REALLY sweet. Maybe half the sugar would be better. Still, the flavor was wonderful. Thick and rich. REALLY rich. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I Had A Sweet Tooth So I Was Going To Jump In The Car To Go Get A Frosty....When I Realized I Had Ice Cream In The Freezer...To Make A Long Story Short...This Was Quick And Easy!!!! I've only ever been a fan on chocolate milkshakes....not anymore! YUM! and SO EASY! The vanilla and sugar make all the difference in the world! I made this for my daughter but used fat-free frozen yogurt and 2%milk and added 2extra tbs of sugar and some frozen strawberries...world's best strawberry shake was in our kitchen that day!...drinking one now...guilt-free! Thanks Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is a super vanilla milkshake. Thank you Paula Deen! Instead of regular sugar, I used sugar I infused with a vanilla bean a few days earlier; vanilla sugar. I also used a quality vanilla ice cream (Breyers Natural Vanilla). Mmmmmm....good! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Seriously the best vanilla milkshakes I ever had. I used not quite the amount of milk suggested and it came out nice and thick. Can't wait for the summer so I can make these more often. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Fantastic recipe for a simple pleasure. Quick, easy, full of flavor. We cut down the sugar and the result was still out of this world! item not reviewed by moderator and published

I thought it was really really good. it is smooth yet satisfying.Ur a southern girl so i come from Texas so GOOOOO TEXAS! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I thought this milkshake recipe was extremely tasty and delicious. I have a sweet tooth so I didn't mind the large amount of sugar the recipe asks for but I can see how the sugar can be overpowering. If you use only 25% of the sugar ingredient or no sugar, it should taste just as good or better. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I am easily convinced that this is the best milk shake recipe ever. I will be using this recipe from now on. item not reviewed by moderator and published
My daugther had a friend over to spend the night so, them and my two other girls tried it and loved it... Thank you for the recepie item not reviewed by moderator and published

I swear that woman can do no wrong!! She could tell me to fry a boot and I would and it probably turn out good too!! The milkshake tasted just like a ice cream shop milkshake, rich and creamy and oh so vanilla! item not reviewed by moderator and published
so easy but yet so so good. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This milkshake was awesome. I only had enough stuff on hand to make 1/4 of the recipe but I made a low sugar version for my husband and he loved it. I used Splenda & Hood Calorie Countdown for an awsome (1-3 grams of sugar per seving)vanilla milkshake. Having the correct ratio 4-2 or 4-1 if you want a thicker shake, plus the vanilla & sugar or splenda is the perfect combination. My kids are now home from camp so I think I will make some tonight with added chocolate & starberry. Thanks, Paula!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I just finished eating dinner and had a craving for a milkshake. I decided to look one up here and let me tell you, for having it done in 2 mins it taste just as great if not better than a milkshake from a ice cream shop. Delecious! Im definately making this more often and even making it my own by adding fruits every once in a while. Thanks Paula!! item not reviewed by moderator and published

The best milkshake i have ever had item not reviewed by moderator and published
This milkshake is the best I've tasted! Make sure that you take the time to really grind the sugar or it will be kind of gritty. item not reviewed by moderator and published

My wife made this for me and it was simply the best milkshake I ever tasted. The texture was exquisite, the flavor was full bodied and the presentation was delightful. Thanks Rocky for making it, my wife ROCKS!. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Paula, this was the best milk shake I have ever tasted. I cut the recipe in half and drank the whole thing myself. It was so creamy and could be very addictive. However, I did cut down on the amount of sugar and used Splenda instead and also used only half of the vanilla. Yummy, Yummy, Yummy! You did it again, Paula....Fantastic!!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
omg this milkshake is the bomb!! i totally love it! its like yummy! lol but omg this is like the best milkshake ive ever had! thanks item not reviewed by moderator and published
It is delicious!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I'm in college, but my best friend and I still do "Sleep Overs." It's a quality time thing to veg out and watch movies and be girls. For the last one, I made these shakes for us. AWESOME!! Tastes just like a Macdonald's vanilla shake (if you like those). My only tip would be to make sure you use really good vanilla extract because it really is what makes the shake. I suggest adding chocolate syrup or something like strawberry nesquick to change the flavor. As to the sizing, we cut the recipe in half and that was just perfect for two people. ENJOY item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is so easy and delicious. My husband does not like vanilla ice cream but simply loved this shake. The sugar combined with a teaspoon of vanilla makes a huge difference. Thanks Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
yum item not reviewed by moderator and published
I recomend not adding as much sugar as the recipe calls for, unless you want your milkshake really sweet. item not reviewed by moderator and published
It was very tasty, but I would decrease the sugar if you are using a premium French vanilla ice cream. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Husband and I just tried this recipe. Not only was it super easy, but Paula was right-it is the best milkshake ever. no more settling for any other! the vanilla extract and the added sugar made a great pair for a tasty treat. item not reviewed by moderator and published
