After reading the reviews about the butter error, I looked this recipe up on Paula Deen's website and this recipe should read 1 c of butter NOT 1 stick. I left the cherries out and they are fantastic!!

I have made these cookies the last four Christmas seasons and just realized that I haven't reviewed them! I gave only four stars because I did change the recipe a bit! I used 1 1/2 sticks butter, 1 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup white sugar and I've found that 1 cup each macadamia nuts (I love them, either dried cherries or candied (husband prefers candied and white chocolate morsels! I took a couple dozen to my daughter and her fiancé for Christmas and I thought he was going to eat them all! So yes they are excellent! Thanks for the recipe!

Thanks Paula!!!!! I read the reviews before making these and agree that the 1C butter should be 1/2C. Other than that the recipe is wonderful!!!! It is NOT too sweet and the balance of flavors is spot on. Even my wife (who doesn't like candied cherries thought they were out of this world. Don't change a thing people.......you will only serve to ruin the intended recipe.

Every body loved them. I used dried cherries because my store was out of candied. Baked them at 350 on parchment lined sheets and they did not burn. Also added an extra 1/2 stick of butter and cut the white sugar to 1/2 cup. I only gave it 4 stars because I tweaked the original recipe, but the end product was a 5!

The first batch I baked burned on the bottom. Also, the second burned. For the third batch I baked them for 11 minutes, but they came out not quite done in the middle. I then raised the oven rack one notch up, baked another batch for a shorter time and they came out okay. My family even liked the burned batch, so they must be winners. I will admit instead of greasing the cookie sheet, I sprayed it with cooking oil. Maybe that's why the burned. Anyone got a suggestion???

I wasn't too impressed with the original recipe. They came out like hockey pucks. I tried it again, adding another stick of butter and cut back on the sugar. I also used chopped dried cherries, lowered the baking temp to 350 and shortened the baking time by 2 minutes. They came out delicious then, soft and slightly crunchy at the edges. I agree with the other reviewers that the original recipe was way too sweet.

WAYYYY too much sugar! So sugary I got a sugar headache. Haven't had one since I was a teenager! I tasted the first batch and decided to add 1/3 more of everything, except the sugar, and they were YUMMY!! Next time I'll cut the white sugar in half.

I was short on finances this year, so I decided to make a great batch of Cookies as my gift to both myself and my partner's family. These did just the trick! Listening to other reviews, I added an additional half stick of butter and I used normal dried cherries (rather than candied cherries. The came out perfect! Even with the extra half stick of butter, it was some of the weirdest batter I've ever felt but it baked perfectly. I wouldn't dare try it sans that extra butter. Additionally, the batter itself was very sweet; the dried cherries cut that sweetness with a great bite of tang perfectly. Regardless of finances in the future, I think this may become a holiday tradition.

Like Adam Richmond says "Oh my goodness! oh my goodness!" These were extremely delicious! easy to make and full of flavor. I could not find candied cherries, so I substituted glazed cherries instead.
