This recipe, as printed, has got to be wrong. 1 1/4 c. flour is not enough for the amount of sugar and shortening. The cookies were a flat, disappointing mess the first baking. Second time around, I used the amount of flour I felt would be right (2 1/4 c.with satisfactory results.

Easy enough to make, was a little concerned cookie dough so dry...
    Formed balls for baking...but cookies
never flattened out on own in oven...had
    to pat flat after baking.
But they are a wonderful tasting cookie.

Thank you Susan for the correction. The cookies turned out perfectly! Next time I'll double the recipe since it's a pretty small batch.

Now reading the other reviews I see that the recipe was not accurate. I was pretty frustrated when I attempted to make a batch, and it came out all wrong. Then I thought that maybe the temperature was off, So then I tried a second batch and it came out horrible as well.
Food Network should really get this accurate, cause it LOOKED delicious on tv, but it was atrocious when I made it.

I had to give this recipe a five since I have high hopes. In the meantime I have emailed the Food Network and asked for the correct recipe. If you ever want to ask about one of her recipes go to this link. http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_pa/0,1976,FOOD_10234,00.html

I tried the cookie recipe and the following corrections were made for the recipe. Both sugars should be added and the flour amount should be 2-1/4 cups, not 1-1/4 cups. After I made these corrections to the recipe, they were great. Hope this helps.

Didn't read the reviews and followed the recipe only to get pancake cookies. Is it hard to reread a recipe for accuracy?

On the show Paula used 2 1/4 cups of all purpose flour not 1 1/4 as listed in the printed recipe. Also, Paula used 1/2 cup of brown sugar and no white sugar, yet the recipe calls for 1 cup of white sugar. Paula did say "Now we're going to take our dry ingredients and slowly add that to our creamed butter and SUGARS (plural. Would someone at the Food Network please review and correct this recipe?
    Thank you!
