Great! I made this dish for my sister and brother-in-law before she had her baby. They actually were able to freeze it and eat it later when everything was crazy with a newborn. They loved it! Very delicious and certainly adjust spiciness for your liking. We like it hot! Really easy dish that is a hit.
(On another note--I don't understand why some people rate a recipe when they haven't made it--it affects the overall rating in a false way

Im going to go ahead and bring this review topic back to the RECIPE. I love this casserole. I have made it every thanksgiving and christmas for a couple years now. You can make it as spicy hot or mild as you want depending on how much heat you prefer. The first time i made it I used texas pete hot sauce but every time ever since Ive used tabasco and it comes out fine. Also, I've found that doubing up on the rice and sauce but not on the oysters doesnt take away from the dish at all. Great recipe! really really easy!

To the review from Baltimore, MD.......there are a lot of exclamations you could give your children about the word "aphrodisiac" that are not offensive or vulgar as you seem to be referring to. What do you tell your children about the many offensive ads that are shown on TV?

My boyfriend doesn't like oysters, so I replaced them with chicken in this recipe. It's quite rich, so we don't make it very often, but when we do it is quite a yummy treat. We also add some of the pepper flakes in the casserole for extra spice.

I don't like oysters but I am thinking of trying it with chicken. Has anyone reading this tried it that way. I will post again after I try it.

My boys aged 12, 10, 6 and 6 love everything Paula Deen especially this recipe. In fact, they often request it over cheeseburgers. Instead of fresh oysters I used 2 cans of canned oysters and just use whatever wild rice I can find. It kind of tastes like oyster stew, but in casserole form

My mother and I made this together and halved the recipe. We've never made oysters and this was easy. Also we cooked it for 30 minutes instead of 40 to accomadate the smaller amount to be baked. We substituted long grain wild rice for brown wild rice It took a little bit of time but turned out delicious- and I'm not even a big oyster fan:

Being oyster lovers, my husband and I were eager to try this recipe. Due to the cost of oysters, I only put 1 qt. of oysters in this recipe. For the amount of rice this recipe makes you really do need 2 qts of oysters to balance things out. Next time, I think I'll only cook 1 sleeve of the Mahatma rice and keep the 1 qt of oysters and cook it in maybe a 8x8 casserole dish instead. Other than this, the flavors worked well together. Oh, I also added a jar of marinated artichoke hearts (which I rinsed lightly at the very end of the oyster cooking time just to heat them through. They really added another level of flavor to an already great recipe.

LOVE Paula Deen, hated this recipe.
After driving around to find a huge amount of oysters (very expensive and then Mahatma doesnt offer "boxes" in So Cal, only bags, getting everything together, it was a huge disappointment.
