    I made this cake a year ago after I saw Paula make it on TV. It looked SO yummy! When I made it the icing was VERY grainy or gritty. It did not turn out well at ALL! We threw the whole thing away!

    The cake is delicious; it's the icing I have a complaint with. It was quite grainy as the sugar did not dissolve. Maybe I did not heat the milk hot enough. I have a recipe for a cake that's quite similar to this one called "Mississippi Mud Cake". I'll probably just continue to use it instead of this recipe. I was a little disappointed, because usually everything I've made from Paula's recipes have been very good.

    The first time I had ever watched Home Cooking with Paula Deen, she was making this cake. So I wrote down the ingredients and made myself the same cake. This was one of the best cakes I had ever made n my life. Thank you Paula and by the way I am cooking your Valentine's Day Dinner for my husband, mom, and stepfather. I am gonna attempt the White Cake with Strawberry Icing, Crab stuffed Shrimp, Standing Rib roast, Twice Baked Potato Casserole, and your famous Blueberry Gems.

    I don't get all the other reviews. I followed the directions exactly. The day I made it, my husband & I each had a piece & it was very sweet. The day after it as unbearably sweet, my whole mouth hurt from the sweetness. I would say don't bother but if you do, cut the sugar in half. I should have known better than to try this: 3 sticks of butter? 4 cups of sugar total? Waaayy too much sugar. This will rot your teeth.

    This is a very good cake which looks like you slaved over it when it fact it is not difficult to make. Have made 2 in the last month and got rave reviews! Will keep this recipe

    This is the first recipe I've tryed of Paula's. I had such high hopes for this cake. But it was way to sweet, even for a chocolate lover as myself. The cake would be good to make as brownies, but the frosting was very grainy and very sweet. All in all it was very easy to make and i probably will not try it again.
