I am a HUGE FAN of Paula Deen and I love pretty much every recipe I've made of hers, but this chicken salad was not tasty to me at all. I followed the recipe to the "T" and I just did not think that the flavors went well together. The basil was extremely over-powering and I just really did not enjoy this recipe. However, I am still a HUGE FAN and will always continue to be. Can't wait to try something else.

This is a wonderful chicken salad. Great for a hot summer evening. And the ingredients work so well together!! And as for the comment from "wanted to like it": So what if she used an ice cream scoop. It didn't change the taste nor the texture of the salad. As a matter of fact it's a much cleaner way to serve it rather than with a spoon, which to me is not classy. And Paula has a lot of class that is why she is one of the top cooking shows on Food Network. Are you?????

I received so many compliments on this dish. I did add extra lemon juice.

This is a definate "keeper" recipe; my new favorite chicken salad. I made two slight modifications: I added 4 teaspoons of lemon juice and I toasted the almonds. The balance between basil and lemon was right on and the almond background flavor was enhanced.

Thanks Paula for a great recipe. I make sweet/salty chicken salads w/grape, etc...I make a southwestern chicken salad with jalapenos, southwestern mayo, etc.....and this adds a 3rd chicken salad to my recipe list!! Just like others, I added a little more lemon juice and I also added salt. Delish!

This was wonderful... it was devoured quickly with no leftovers! I did add a bit of chopped green onion, which worked well. Next time I may dial back a bit on the mayo/sour cream, but not the basil or lemon juice. Love it!

Chill out a little, friend; no need to make yourself appear unkind. I didn't think too much about the ice cream scoop comment until I read your post. As I think more about it, it's rather funny. It's been a long time but the school cafeteria did use those for several dishes.

This is a very good and simple recipe.

Hard to believe that this recipe is so easy and yet tastes so wonderful! The only changes I made was to add a bit more lemon juice and a bit more basil. Yummy!

I love chicken salad but am always looking for new ways to make it and this one is great. I did make a few additions. I toasted the almonds and I added about a teaspoon more lemon juice and some zest. I added a little dijon mustard and about 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper. Yummy!
