This was FABULOUS! However, I used a loaf of Challah bread sliced into 1" thick pieces. I also used Fat Free Half & Half instead of cream. The recipe was still delicious and I cannot wait to make it again!!! Thank you Paula!

I did not have pecans so I substituted almonds - it was still great! Although I will do this next time with the pecans. Verrrrrry yummy!

I used a whole bottle of rum. fell back asleep and woke up around 3pm with a headache. I'm gonna do it again in the morning. Very tasty

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and French toast is my favorite breakfast item, so i had to try this recipe. While the rum was a little much for me, the rest of the recipe was delicious. so sweet, and rich, and a pretty easy recipe to make. I would recommend this to any breakfast lover (but never a diabetic, its that sweet.

    This tastes sooo goood!

I added 2 Tablespoons of butter to tone down the sweetness of the syrup as other reviewers have mentioned. Next time I make this dish, I will also add a bit more butter or less brown sugar as I thought the syrup was still a little too sweet.

Also, since I love bananas I will add more bananas next time too, but that is just a personal preference.

I did make some changes with this. I left out the dark syrup and I also added some maple flavoring instead of the rum. I finely chopped my pecans and only added 2 chopped bananas. The next time I will leave out the bananas altogether. I loved the pecan syrup. The french toast was awsome. This is the first time for me to make this and I will make it again and again. Thank you so much Paula once again.

I LOVE BANANAS FOSTER!! So I thought this would be a wonderful chang e. It was really good, BUT WAY TOO SWEET/RICH. I will probably make it again, but will tone it down a bit by maybe adding a little lemon juice.

Kamelia - relax. We do not need you to be the food police. I too also like healthy foods, and you can easily modify this recipe to be lower in fat, sugar, and omit the alcohol. Like all food, it's all in moderation. I would not expect someone to eat this every breakfast everyday, but once a year or for special occasions is not going to kill you. Enjoy life, and once in a blue moon have a piece of cheesecake or decadent french toast. I made mine with fat free half and half, and didn't make the sauce. I used sugar free maple syrup and bananas instead. I also use regular bread instead of the croissants and used canola oil and just a small pat of butter. I omitted a lot of the fat and calories you are so freaked out about. As will all recipes, just think outside of the box and you can use the base recipe to create something healthy and delicious.
