Have made this several times as a dip and mixed everything together-NEVER any leftovers. I do use a little more bacon and tomato than the recipe calls for.

I have made this twice now and it is gone within the hour. It is so easy. If you have a friend growing fresh summer tomatos use them because the recipe taste just like summer....I used a pound and a half of bacon ( chopped it up before frying made it perectly crunchy.

This is a great basic dip but I kicked it up. I added 8 oz cream cheese, 1 can petite diced tomatoes (drained and dried with a paper towel, 2 handfuls or so of cheddar cheese and I used 3 roma tomatoes instead of the vine tomatoes. I added all but a handful of bacon to the dip and also reserved about 1/4 c of the roma tomatoes. I topped it with the reserved bacon, tomatoes, and lettuce. I put it in a Hawaiian bread bowl and used the pieces for the dip. I also used rye triscuits which worked out really well. I took it to a card party and people were leaving the game to stand by the dip and eat it. I have given the recipe to three people so far.
This is now part of my go to recipes.

This is the first dish I brought to a potluck that I made myself. It turned out nicely, people ate it all-- some ate it as just a salad skipping the crackers.. (it was a little too "rich" for me that way, but to each his own :- I did have the Rye triscuits with it and it was perfect. mixed in about half of the bacon and tomato into the mixture and the rest on top as others have. I may add a little more bacon next time and make an adjustment here or there. Overall, great appetizer!

I had to make an appetizer for a family gathering and, based on previous reviews, chose this one. Am I glad I did!
For that gathering, I used regular mayo (16 oz, regular sour cream (15 oz, and added some cream cheese (8 oz after reading another review. It turned out GREAT and my family ate about 1/2 of the dip within the first 15 minutes. Seriously, it surpassed all other appetizers - even oven-fresh stuffed mushrooms!
The second time I made it was for a Christmas party with coworkers. I used regular mayo but light sour cream since I saw some people say that you could go "lighter" with this dish... boy, what a mistake!!! The sour cream flavor completely took over the dish, so I tried to compensate by adding more mayo. I thought I finally got the flavors to balance after adding about 8 more oz, but the texture was completely off, even after being in the fridge for 10 or so hours overnight to "meld" the flavors. An hour into the Christmas party the dip was VERY liquidy and was barely touched. A few people commented that they liked the flavor, but to me it looked watery and unappetizing. I would NOT use "light" or "fat free" ingredients in the future!
