I'm giving this recipe 5 stars because it never occurred to me to cook chili for 4 HOURS!!!! It totally changed the texture of it to this amazing consistency.

Didnt have sausage and Hurricane Sandy at the shore wasn't permitting me to go get any! Used 3lbs ground beef, added 3 packages chili mix, 1 T Franks hot sauce, 2 T cumin, 1/2 tsp cayenne, 1 T brown sugar, 1 T garlic, same amount of tomatoes, and minced onions bc I only had a half of one onion. Also added salt. Didnt use all the beans, just two cans of kidney bc hubby doesnt like the "other:" beans in his chili. ( I do. Was just sooo good,. I can only imagine that the sausage would have added so much flavor and been even more delicious! Wish I had liquid smoke like one of the other reviewers added....Yum!

My family loves this recipe! Thank you Jamie and Paula for sharing it with us. I did change it up a little. I used 1 lb. of hamburger meat, 1 lb. of deer meat (did not have any sausage on hand, 1 small can of tomato sauce, 3/4 stick of butter to cook the onions, bell pepper, and celery in. I also added 3 Tablespoons of sugar to break up the acidity. I used 1 large can of pinto chili beans and 1 regular can of red kidney beans (I did not have the others. I did not cook mine for the 4 hours like the recipe calls for however, did have enough left overs which will taste even better tomorrow night.

I am not a big chili eater. I made this because my mother and I got into a convo about "Fall foods", and she mentioned wanting to find a good chili recipe. So, I jumped online, found this, and despite being skeptical, gave it a shot.

It was AWESOME!!! I added a little more in the way of meat, and scrapped the celery altogether. At the last minute, I also scrapped the pinto beans and can of whole tomatoes, although I used the liquid from the can. Overall, it got rave reviews. Thanks, Jamie!!!!!!!

I made this on Monday night just in time for the football game. My husband said this is the best chili he has ever tasted. YUMMY! Next time I'm just going to make a double batch!

Husband approved! I used two cans of the beans and tomatoes instead of three. I also used two chili seasoning mix (one regular one hot. No need for cumin and chili powder. Also its very thick so i added half a cup of water. Came out perfect! Im going to freeze the rest and use later to top fries....hot dog....cornbread and tortilla chips! Thank u paula and jamie!

It was good, I substitued the black beans for chili beans bc that's what Jamie did on the show and the chili came out good. It makes a lot, so unless you have 10-15 people to feed, just freeze the leftovers, it will be good whenever you pull it out of the freezer.

Delicious! I was leery of the sausage but followed the recipe exactly and it is now my go-to chili recipe!
