The egg yolk was way overdone. I made a second one where I put the egg in the middle of the bread after I turned it over and had it with the egg sunny side up. Much better.

Childhood memories!!! My dad would get up and make our egg in a hole for us! Even when we were going to college. No missing breakfast at our house. And camping. A little on the brown side but always made with love by our dad! Thanks for all the good memories!!!

Disappointed in the one-eyed sailor, but loved the cheese sauce.

Here in New Mexico we have a great "chili con queso". It is very close to your cheeze sauce but add green chili, tomatoes, garlic. It is a really great way to put a Southwestern theme to your breakfast. This is a cute way to enhance eggs in the morning!!

I made this for my almost 3 year old son and he loved it! It is hard to get him to eat an entire meal these days, but he ate all of this! I made the cheese sauce, but only put a couple of tablespoons on top and it was still amazing! Just save the rest of the sauce for more breakfasts later in the week, or you could even freeze it to use in a month or two.

I just made this and it was soooo good! Didn't have time to make the cheese sauce so I just slapped a slice of cheese on top, it was still good! Thanks Paula!

I haven't tried the recipe yet but am anxious to do so the next time I visit the grandchildren. My family has made these for years, we called them "hole in ones", It's a favorite of my oldest grandson, turned 16 yrs old today. I spoil them when I visit, getting up very early to prepare them a good breakfast before they head for school. I think this just might be a new favorite.
ps - I use a jigger to cut the hole and butter one side of the bread, placing the buttered side down in the pan first, then butter the other side while in the pan and put a pat of butter in the hole prior to putting the egg in. Spray the pan with Pam first if necessary.

We have made the eggs in toast for years, but the cheese sauce was a nice addition to a family favorite. In fact, we had cried potatoes as a side and the cheese sauce was good on those also. One suggestion I would make is to butter the bread before cutting the holes since it is much easier to do it then than afterward. There is also a lot more sauce than you need and I would suggest cutting it in half.
