I just saw this repeat show today and it just sounded so good and easy. I purchased too much shrimp required for last night's menu (Anne Burrell's oil, garlic, crushed red pepper recipe - Yikes! Great! so I was looking to see what I could use the surplus for today. It never occurred to me to add cornmeal so this was a pleasant change from my old plain deep fried flour stuff. Nice and crunchy is right... this made a great lunch. ( FYI: Texas Pete's hot sauce is a North Carolina product.

I loved this, it reminded me of my favorite dish at Bubba Gump's Restaurant. It was pretty easy to make. I put this on slightly toasted ciabatta bread, and smoothed on a tartar sauce from Trader Joes with a hint of dill and jalapeno. This gave it the heat (spice it needed, the egg water hot sauce mixed didn't seem to make it really spicy at all. The cornmeal really makes this, nice and crunchy. I did not have self-rising flour so I added 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder per each cup of flour used. Worked great, batter stayed on the shrimp, was puffy, and well coated.
I paired it with some roasted green beans with Parmesan cheese (Tyler Florence idea, and oven baked yam fries. YUMMO!

My husband and I both adore shrimp, so this is a must try for us. Rating 5 stars based solely on Paula's reputation for fabulous recipes. Oh, and by the way, A.G.? Get a life...and a dictionary, or at the very least, spell check. And here's a hint: if you push the "caps lock" button one more time, you can even properly use upper and lower case letters on your posts. Ingenious!

Recipe contains self-rising flour, cornmeal, salt, and pepper. It's the first thing on the recipe. I believe the tails were left on to make the shrimp easy to handle while dipping into the egg mixture. I snipped them off with kitchen shears before making the sandwich.
