GREAT flavor on these beans! I started with plain canned small white beans..adding the sugar/seasonings to already flavored beans would have been too much for me! Browned the bacon first (texture preference and drained a bit of the fat. I agree with a prior review and would skip the french fried onion...for me, it added a gummy, thickening texture to the beans. Next time, I will brown a cup of finely chopped purple onion to add instead. Will definitely make these again!

Every time we have a dinner at work people beg me to bring these beans. I'm making them for our picnic for the 4th, as my sister-in-law requested them. I made one change though; I use only a small can of crushed pineapple, and I buy a small can of pineapple rings and grill these and chop them up. You can taste the grilled pineapple flavor every now and then; a co-worker raved the last time I made them like this!

Made these for Fathers Day and everyone loved them. We had to print out the
recipe for our family to take home. We were asked to bring the beans to the 4th party

Dear Lord these are the most incredible beans in the world, you have to make a double recipe even if it is for only a few people as you have no left-overs....GO PAULA

My father, who is normally neutral about baked beans, absolutely loved this recipe--as did all of us baked beans lovers. I didn't add the onions, and I didn't miss them. The pineapple added a delicious sweet tang. Just make sure you use canned pineapple that's been packed in pineapple juice as opposed to pineapple packed in syrup or water.

I saw Paula Deans prepare this recipe on her program and decided it would make a good buffet dish for our Memorial Day Pot Luck Luncheon at the United States Capitol. Because many of us have to work on holidays as Guides and Visitor Assistants (about 65-75 on any one day, we make the best of the day by bringing contributions to a large buffet spread in our break-room in the Capitol Visitors Center. My Baked Beans prepared in a large, enameled, rectangular pan were consumed early on and everyone from Winchester, VA to Baltimore, MD raved about them as being the best ever eaten! I modified the recipe some by cutting the BBQ sauce in half, adding half cup brown sugar, and mixing my home-made french-fried onions in equal parts with store-bought ones. I also added a can of diced tomatoes with a fresh, diced tomato to the recipe. Thank you Sue and Gloria for the original recipe! I think it will be served again at the Capitol come July 4th!

I made this for a cookout my husband's company was hosting, and it beat out the classic baked bean recipe by a long shot! The guests raved about it and the poor woman who brought the other beans ended up having to take home two whole batches of the normal stuff. I used a cup of brown sugar instead of the molasses, as I had it on hand.

They are on the sweet side but I still loved them. I partially drained the beans before adding the rest of the ingredients. Tasted fabulous!
